By itself: A high (how high) dheas level may mean nothing at all. I don't know why the level would have been drawn in the first place. It can be significantly (not slightly) elevated in a variety of ovarian or adrenal problems, including pcos. It is also stimulated by certain medications. What can be the cause of an elevated dhea sulfate level (elevated adrenal hormones) of 599 mcg/dl? What does it mean if it's idiopathic?
Not that high: A dhea-s of 599 (correct -comes from the adrenals) is somewhat increased but will usually not cause problems. It would help to know the reason why it was done. If periods are irregular other tests were probably run and if normal would be reassuring. If periods very irregular and increased facial hair you should definitely see an endocrinologist if you have not done so to look for other things. ...Read more
