See ENT: The facial swelling might be due to steroids even though this would be uncommon side effect from a short-term high dose quick taper of steroids. If your hoarseness was caused by vocal cord edema, you would have noticed some improvement. Now, you should have an ENT look at your vocal cords directly with a special camera in the clinic to determine the cause. ...Read more

I have a few tooth abcesses with facial swelling, puffy eyes, and swollen lips. I went to the emergency room and they said that it hasn't spread. They switched me to a different antibiotic. Is it okay to do so?

Dental abscess: It's not clear to me whether your swollen lips were an allergic reaction to initial antibiotic or just part of your infection. Regardless, you need to go see your dentist for appropriate care. Be sure to take antibiotics as directed. Don't save any for next infection as that will only set you up for resistance. Your family doc can keep an eye on you pending your dental appointment this week. ...Read more
