Blood : Blood in the semen, or "hematospermia", can be a very alarming finding. It is quite common in urologic practices and in the absence of other symptoms, is typically not worrisome and tends to resolve spontaneously (though it may take as long as several weeks). If it persists or is accompanied by syptoms such as pain or burning with urination or blood in the urine, then it would require further evaluation. ...Read more

Get urine retested: It is important to check on the results of the initial urine culture used to establish the diagnosis of UTI. This will tell you if the antibiotic that you were prescribed was effective for the infection. Since you are still having symptoms, seeing your doctor to get your urine rechecked for signs of continued infection is important. Also would check for Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma infection. ...Read more

Possible: A UTI can clear by itself. Our immune system can overcome infections. Before antibiotics people survived different kinds of infectious processes.
The other possibility would be what you had might have been an allergic/ inflammatory process that resolved with time ...Read more

Had lower right pain. went to urgent care. said I had a little blood in my urine and was diagnosed with an UTI. taking meds.pain is now in left side?

Alternate diagnosis?: UTI that spreads to the kidney causes flank pain, but rarely on both sides. Sometimes pain occurs on the opposite side due to muscle strain (caused by favoring the side that is originally in pain). A concern, especially if a pelvic exam was not done to rule this out, is pelvic inflammatory disease. Another concern would be kidney stones on both sides (also rare, but infection harder to treat) ...Read more

I had a bad UTI a little over a month ago and I was on IV antibiotics at the time. Part of my blood work indicated Polychromasia +1. Should I worry.

See below : Polychromasia is the presence of immature red blood cells in the bloodstream and is usually a sign of bone marrow stress. It most commonly occurs in conditions which call for premature release of red blood cells into the bloodstream when RBC levels are severely low (anemia) such as occurs with iron deficiency, blood loss or hemolysis. Likely unrelated to UTI but recommend you discuss with your MD ...Read more

I was diagnosed with a UTI five days ago. Is it normal to still see a little bit of blood when i wipe? The doctor said i had "quite the infection."

Not usual: Normally the blood should have cleared from the urine by now, though it could be lingering if the infection was very severe. You should check on the results of the urine culture and the antibiotic should be adjusted as necessary. You should also repeat the urine culture about a week after you finish treatment. Finally, get rechecked if the blood persists. ...Read more

I feel like I constantly have to pee and when I do it burns really bad. I have a uti. But when I wipe, I have very very light blood. What's this mean?

UTI: Common signs & symptoms of a UTI include frequent urination, burning pain on urination, a sense of extreme urgency (have to urinate right now), blood in the urine, and foul smell in the urine. While bloody urine can be caused by many many things, in the clinical setting of symptoms otherwise consistent with a UTI, the blood does go along with that overall picture. Seek treatment from your doctor. ...Read more

Hello. : Hello. The normal specific gravity for an adult ranges from 1.001 to 1.030. This tells you how concentrated your urine is (i.e., are you well hydrated). Yours is fine. The rbc count shows that over 100 red blood cells were counted per high power field (with microscope). Normal is 4 rbc per high power field or less. 2+ blood is also a description of blood in urine. If your menstrual blood was an issue, this would be a contaminant and you would be able to tell because there would be a number of epithelial cells noted on the lab report. ...Read more

I have blood protein and white cells in my urine tests came back no UTI had two courses of antibiotics but still persists what could this mean?

See answer: Urinalysis (u/a) can be misleading in females regarding the presence or absence of a uti. Urine culture most accurate. Lack of response to 2 antibiotics would suggest abnormal u/a is not due to a uti. If significant protein (1-2+ or more), implies renal disease. Can confirm with blood tests. If significant blood (>3 rbcs/hpf), then need kidney imaging (ct urogram or renal us) and cystoscopy. ...Read more
