If seeing someone I love make my heart skip a beat, does that mean I have an arrhythmia?

If seeing someone I love make my heart skip a beat, does that mean I have an arrhythmia?

Yes: Technically it may be called arrhythmia but it is very common. It is normal to have at least five extra beats per minute. Just to make sure you don't have anything else I would get an EKG and consider a holter monitor but sometimes simply by listening your heart a physician may diagnose extra beats (PVC or apc) or atrial or other arrhythmias that may require treatment. Sometimes I suddenly get palpitations! Like my heart skips a beat! 112 BPM when lay down. Should I tell my GP?

Yes.: An EKG and Holter monitor are non-invasive and can give good information. Lab may be needed for Ca, Mg and K levels if you are on other meds or have loose stools. Treatment at home that works well is Mg (magnesium). For skip beats etc. I use Mag Glycinate or Mag Maleate @ 200 mg 3x/d. [this can cause loose stools so you might only tolerate 400 mg. You can easily take 800 mg. This helps 90% of Read more

Needs eval soon: This could be something not serious like an adverse effect from your antihistamine. But it could also be something very serious. Heart beat irregularities occurring that often or multiple times in a row can be serious. You absolutely need to get into your doctor THIS WEEK to have it evaluated. You need a good exam of heart including rate, blood pressure and EKG, and then go form there. MAKE APPT!! Read more

I have frequent minor palpitations. No serious heart conditions tho. Is amitriptyline at a low dose safe for me? I've read it causes arrhythmia.

Chances of arrhythmia with a clear ekg, chest x ray, and blood tests? I know they can go undetected. 18 years old. Feel occasional heart palpitations

Low: The chances of a significant arrhythmia are very low given your negative test results. Teenagers will often have a bit of flipflop feeling in their chest or palpitation. These are usually normal. The use of energy drinks and chocolate can increase these episodes. Your doctor is best suited to determine the need for further testing, such as 24 hr holter monitoring.
