What Does It Mean When Tsh Is 10
Few possibilities: These labs seem at odds, with TSH suggesting overactive thyroid and ft4 underactive thyroid. Free T4 tests can be inaccurate in some people who have interfering substances present. Another possibility is a tumor in the pituitary secreting too much TSH resulting in thyroid overactivity, and high thyroid hormone levels. This is quite rare, however. Your doctor can help sort this out. ...Read more
Hypothyroid: Your thyroid is not producing enough thyroid hormone, so your brain is producing extra TSH(thyroid stimulating hormone) to tell the thyroid to produce more thyroid hormone. You need to be placed on Synthroid to replace your hormone and have your TSH rechecked in 6-8 weeks to see if the dosage is correct. This will likely be a lifelong treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
First decrease of tapazole (15mg to 10) shows increases in TSH (from 5 to 9), ft4 (9 to 11; 12-22 norm), ft3 (low norm to mid). What does this mean?
Need less Tapazole: I assume you are being treated for an overactive thyroid. Once thyroid levels drop significantly, one has to decrease the dosage of tapazole. If you drop the dose too much, your thyroid level would become high again. If you don't drop it enough, the thyroid level remains low. Based on your numbers it looks like the dose of 10 mg is still too much. ...Read more
The level of T4 is 1.0 and TSH is 3.0.But i hve swelling on one side of my neck..What does it mean? If the levels are normal why do I hve swelling?
Neck swelling: There are many possibilities. First, is the swelling from the thyroid? If not, you need to get it checked out. If it is, it is possible it is a thyroid cyst, which is usually benign, and can swell/shrink. A hashimotos thyroid can swell. A thyroid ultrasound would help diagnose this. ...Read more
What does this mean? Low henoglobin 129, low MCV 77, low MCH 25. Also have high TSH 10.48, ALT 62.
Hypothyroid, anemia: Low hemoglobin associated with a low MCV and MCH is usually related to iron deficiency. You should have an iron, tibc, ferritin level done. The high TSH implies a lowthyroid level. You need a free T4 level, and probably a higher dose of synthroid. Significant hypothyroidism can cause iron deficiency anemia, but other causes need to be investigated. The high alt implies a liver problem. ...Read more

TSH, 3RD GENERATION (0.40-4.00) uIU/ML My results are 1.10
I had this test taken. Can you explain what the results mean?
Normal, but...: THIS IS A NORMAL THYROID SCREENING TESTS. There are rare diseases thyroid that can happen with an normal normal TSH, but you would have symptoms of thyroid disease or other evidence of central hypothyroidism or thyroiditis in a "euthyroid phase," which would be rare and require much more history. If there is ongoing concern see an endocrinologist. IF YOU GENERALLY FEEL WELL GREAT, IT IS NORMAL! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
T3-182dl for 60-200,T4-12.4dl for 4.5-12.0 and TSH-3.22ml for 0.30-5.5,Calcium-9.83dl for 8.8- 10.6.Calcium has raised a bit. What does this all mean?
Normal: Hi. That is all completely normal. It demonstrates why we only use a free T4 instead of a total T4. Your total T4 is slightly "elevated" because of a binding protein in your blood; your free T4 would be within normal limits, if it were checked. Not one single analyte in blood remains the same all the time. There is a RANGE of normal. Labs have variability too. Your labs are normal. Live healthily! ...Read more
My tsh result is 4.2
My T3 result is 1.3
My T4 result is 10.4
What do all these readings mean. My doctor is out if the country.
I am concerned.
Need reference range: How did you get results if doctor is out of the country? Whenever you get your lab results, always ask for the lab's "normal" reference range. Different labs use different methods to run tests so a number is useless w/o reference range for interpretation. Check out http://www.globalrph.com/labs_t.htm as starting point. Notice difference between conventional & SI units. Most likely you're normal. ...Read more
