Electrocardiogram (Definition)

Electrocardiogram (ecg, ekg) is a print-out of the electrical forces detected by electrodes on the chest wall, as electricity travels through the heart with each heart beat. The electrodes are placed in different positions, and each position "sees" the electrical activity of the heart from its own vantage point. Abnormalities in signal detected at chest surface ...Read more

My stress test results read " positive exercise stress test for ischemia by EKG criteria. What does that mean?

My stress test results read " positive exercise stress test for ischemia by EKG criteria. What does that mean?

This means that the: EKG portion of your stress test had changes in the waveforms that have been known to be associated with blockages of the coronary arteries. Unfortunately, greater than 15% of the time this is inaccurate in women. Less than 5% of the time in men. This is why we always do stress testing in women along with nuclear imaging. If the nuclear imaging is negative then the EKG changes are FALSE positive. ...Read more

What does it mean if the ECG showed signs of ischemia in the postural valve?

What does it mean if the ECG showed signs of ischemia in the postural valve?

Posterior wall?: You probably meant to say posterior wall, instead of posterior valve. But it probably means there is a blockage in the coronary artery that is feeding the posterior wall of your heart. This can be confirmed with a coronary angiogram and potentially fixed with coronary angioplasty and stent placement or else coronary bypass surgery. ...Read more

Stressechoresults: abn stress ECG at 9.1mets, normal exercise stress echo with no evidence of stress induced myocardial ischemia. What does this mean?

Stressechoresults: abn stress ECG at 9.1mets, normal exercise stress echo with no evidence of stress induced myocardial ischemia. What does this mean?

Probably normal: The ECG is accurate about 70-80% of the time in diagnosing cad. Adding stress echo or nuclear imaging improves accuracy to above 90% when patient reaches his or her target rate. ...Read more

The result of my ECG lateral wall ischemia occ. Pvc anterior septal infarct. Whats is that mean? Is that serious?

Concerning: How old are you? You need an echocardiography to see your heart or a stress test with imaging (nuclear stress test) for further evaluation. Pl get to see a cardiologist through your family doc. ...Read more

St-t wave changes, consider inferolateral ischemia on ecg, echo shows heart good. Doctor said are few heart interruptions. What means? 27 yrs. Thanks

St-t wave changes, consider inferolateral ischemia on ecg, echo shows heart good. Doctor said are few heart interruptions. What means? 27 yrs. Thanks

ST-T wave changes: ST-T wave changes often are non-specific and may not mean anything. There are some ST-T changes that are the hallmark of heart attack, but I doubt this is your case as you echo was normal. Modern computerized ECG machines will always say "consider ... ischemia" with any ST-T wave abnormality. ...Read more

My ekg showed 210 ischemia.i forgot to tell doc i am taking gabbapentin. is that causing it?

No: If you are asking if gabapentin causes ischemic heart disease, then the answer is no. Gabapentin is most commonly used for nerve pain, although it has other uses as well. ...Read more

Ischemia (Definition)

Ischemia is a symptom in which a person does not have enough blood supply to a part of the body, making that part of the body "ischemic". For example, in a heart attack, a coronary artery is blocked so blood cannot get to the heart muscle beyond the blockage point. The heart muscle lacking ...Read more
