What Does It Mean When One Eye Is Dilated
See a doctor: A dilated eye is not normal. You should see an ophthalmologist promptly.
Have migraines but head is starting to really hurt for no reason now and one eye is dilated while other is fine. Why would that happen to my eye?
Cyclical Migraine?: Partial or total ophthalmoplegia of the third cranial nerve, the oculomotor nerve, can occur during cyclic migraine. This may include pupillary dilation. See http://www. Headaches. Org/content/childrens-headache-disorders for a review. Nevertheless, if experiencing progressive neurological loss, you should present to an emergency room immediately. Otherwise, visit a neuro-ophthalmologist.
Open the pupil: Dilation occurs naturally in less well lit places. It can be artificially induced by a drug called tropicamide which is the common one that ophthalmologists use for their examinations. There are other drops that can dilate the pupil. A pupil dilated by drugs is larger and usually does not react to light.
Minor: Dilation involves the application of eyedrops for that purpose that might sting a little for 3-5 seconds, but after that there is no discomfort. You might feel some light sensitivity later until the dilation ends.
Normal yes: It is important that both irises respond in unison as described. If there is a disconnect, it can be a sign of more serious conditions and should be evaluated by an ophthalmologist/neurologist.See 1 more doctor answer
One pupil is slightly more dilated than the other, my mom has been rubbing her eyes all day. Help?
Pupil size: Varies from person to person and gets smaller as one ages. Some people have naturally large pupils.
14-yr-old son. Had eye exam today, drops were given. One eye dilated much more than the other, and is taking longer to contract. Is this normal?
Common: This depends upon the amount of the drop that was absorbed, and the internal biochemical neutralizing that the eye accomplishes. Wait 12-24 hours to see the final result which almost certainly will be fine.
One pupil is slightly more dilated then the other. I got sheetrock dust in my eye tonight, and then flushed with water. Could this cause anisocoria?
Most likely not: Getting dust in the eye may cause some irritation with redness, watering or pain which resolves in a few days unless debris remains in the eye to cause inflammation or infection. Anisocoria is usually an accidental benign finding and depending on its appearance, may need some work up to determine its etiology. Good luck??
How often is a dilation eye exam recommended if no symptoms exist? Which one is better? Digital retina exam or dilated eye exam?
Depends: At your age, & depending on your eye health, a dilated exam every 3 years is probably sufficient. For myopia yearly exams usually are desirable to check on prescription changes. My strong preference is for dilated exams with hi-powered diagnostic indirect lenses to evaluate the posterior part of your eyes. Digital retinal imaging exams (Retincam™) work for big pathologies, but not micro-detailed
How long will it take my pupil to go back to normal size after vitrectomy w/gas bubble insertion? My eye still looks dilated one week post op.
Depends on meds: Your surgeon likely used a postoperative mydriatic/cycloplegic agent that keeps your pupil dilated & you ciliary muscle relaxed, both to ease postoperative pain. Occasionally, if laser endophotocoagulation is used during the vitrectomy, there is an infrequent occurence of residual mydriasis (iridoplegia) from laser damage of the short ciliary nerves. Most cases: dilation may last few weeks.See 1 more doctor answer
Mom had good bev hills blepharoplasty. Went for eye exam dilate. One lid drooped more for 4hr. Due to wrong dose or muscle? Her dad had oc mya gravis
Eyelid Drooping: Most pupil dilating drops are parasympathetic antagonists that act by paralyzing the iris sphincter muscle. It is possible that the medication also relaxed (or temporarily paralyzed) one of the small muscles that elevates the eyelid - likely mueller's muscle which lifts the lid via sympathetic stimulation (opposite the effect of dilating drops). Get it checked out if symptoms recur on their own.See 1 more doctor answer
Orbital floor fracture hyphema one month now but vision blur eye dilated still pain on face what to do?
Twice in 2 months I've woken up with my right pupil dilated with my left one reactive to light. No head injury. It becomes normal by midday.?
Phone?: Tumor and syphillis and MS would be unlikely if the symptoms improve daily. Some people read their bright phone in a dark room with one eye on a pillow in he morning. Your eyes might react funny for a while afterwards.
Is it possible for one eye (my right) to be dialated more than my left and if so what should I do?
When the obgyn says she can feel the baby's head bounce and you are 1/2 CM dilated what does that mean?
Good signs: This means that the babies head is in good position for labor. The bouncing doesn't really mean much. But the head being down and able to be touched is good. During labor the cervix opens to 10 cm. So you're now at 1/2 cm. A ways to go, but a good sign that the cervix is getting ready. Good luck!
My pancreatict duct was 6mm dilated with abrupt cut in head NOW its 2.7mm it means I have cured frm chro. Pancreatitis. Idiopathic. CAN DUCT AGIN ENLARGE?
Chronic pancreatitis: Unfortunately chronic pancreatitis can be managed but not cured. The duct may or may not enlarge again. It is important to be aware that slight dilatation (? 2.5 mm) of the main pancreatic duct appears to be a sign of high risk for pancreatic cancer. The systematic examination of high-risk patients is recommended for the early detection of pancreatic cancer to improve the outcomeSee 1 more doctor answer
