What Does It Mean When Fibroids
What does an ultra sound that says normal uterus but very heterogeneous with a few poorly defined fibroids mean?
May mean adenomyosis: Difficult to say for sure. You should discuss findings with your doctor. I often see pelvic ultrasounds describe significant heterogeneity which is due to adenomyosis but called fibroids instead. They are both benign conditions and both cause similar symptoms (and you could even have both). A pelvic MRI is a good way to answer this but first talk to your doctor to explain the results. ...Read more
Uterine fibroids are the most common pelvic tumor in women. 1 of every 3 women of child-bearing age have these tumors and up to 80% of african-american women have fibroids. Nothing: 2mm is very tiny and a fibroid of this size is incapable of causing any symptoms. Fibroids are very common benign tumors, particularly in african-american women. It is estimated that up to 80% of these women of childbearing age have these tumors. 2mm fibroids are what i refer to as "passenger" fibroids. They ride along in the uterus and don't need anything done about them. ...Read more
2 parts: It means that it's a single fibroid with two parts (bilobed) and it is located beneath the lining or covering of the uterus (serosa) ie on the outside of the uterus. Fibroids may be on the outside (subserosal), in the uterine wall (intramural) or beneath the inside cavity lining (submucosal) or in the cavity (intramural). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It's only just begun: Yes, that is a title to a song, but it is also the answer to your question. Cystic degeneration of a uterine fibroid is the first of several types of continuing "dying" changes. In this process, at some point, infection or pain may appear. Talk with your GYN MD about resolution possibilites ...Read more
Pelvic ultrasound : Adenomyosis is also called internal endometriosis and occurs when the lining cells of your uterus get down in the muscle. They bleed every month with your period essentially causing a deep bruise in the uterus and pain with your period. Fibroids are smooth muscle tumors of the uterus and are the most common pelvic tumors. They can rarely become malignant. This is usually diagnosed by rapid growth. ...Read more
My ultrasound says I have: fibroid/dub and the exam techs impression was that I have ut heterogeneous, what does that mean?
Need pelvic MRI: One of most common mistakes made on the interpretation of pelvic ultrasound is missing adenomyosis. I have seen countless women who have been misdiagnosed as having fibroids on ultrasound when instead they had adenomyosis. The tipoff to this is "ut heterogenous" adenomyosis has similar symptoms (pain, heavy menses) but treated a lttle differently. Pelvic MRI would settle this. You might have both. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My fibroid uterusis 5.3cm with myomas in anterior wall and the ovaries are normal, what does that mean?
You have a fibroid!: Anyone can get a uterine fibroid, which is an overgrowth of muscle cells in the shape of a ball. Like moles on the skin, they come in different sizes/shapes; RARELY cancerous. You only need surgery if you have symptoms like pain/pressure/incontinence/bleeding/bloating. Size/location don't matter. Lupron (leuprolide) or embolization are ways to control w/out surgery. US follow up is very important. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hi there, Do fibroids affect normal bleeding time after childbirth? How long is it meant to take? Also does the pill affect anything in that regard?
Depends:: Uterine fibroids are very, very common. Most cause no problems. Sometimes they can affect periods. They don't make bcp's less effective. If you are having unusual bleeding patterns or pain, there are likely other causes. If you have two abnormal periods in a row, and you are not pregnant, get checked. ...Read more
