Not much information: I presume these were disc bulges noted on a lumbar or cervical MRI. It's not uncommon for disc bulges to be noted on MRI studies. It depends on the size and location whether these are significant lesions. Get help: This does not sound good at all, especially if the anterior fontanelle is flat. I would have a pediatrician or ER doc evaluate this ASAP. Did the child have any recent trauma? Possibilities: Dermatology is pretty visual, so it's hard to know what is going on without seeing it. Tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp) can present this way, as can an inflamed cyst, or even a localized bacterial infection (abscess or folliculitis). Bulging fontannele: It depends on the age of the child. After 12 to 18 months the fontanelle is closing and therefore it may not be open enogh for you to tell it may be bulging.
