Im 17 I have a hypotonic and tortuous ureter. What does that mean?

Ureters..: Ureters are usually straight tubes from your kidneys to your bladder. Tortuous means they are very curvy - kinda like those straws that swirl around. Hypotonic means they don't contract and move the urine down themselves very well. All this can mean the urine may not have the best route from kidney to bladder, and this can lead to urine backing up into the kidneys which can cause problems. ...Read more

There is a range of normal, though, and some people have a bigger renal pelvis than others. If it is just "prominent" it may be normal. The more dilated, the more likely there is a real problem. Depending on your symptoms, it may require more testing. ...Read more
