Dr. Ed Friedlander answered:

What does it mean if your liver enzymes are elevated high?

Find the cause

Hemochromatosis
Repeating them when the person is off alcohol and unnecessary medications is often the best plan. If they're still up, you'll get a workup for hepatitis B and C, hemochromatosis, Wilson's and maybe a few others. If you're clear of these, think about getting back into serious aerobic fitness. Best wishes.

All tests need to be interpreted in the clinical context and you should discuss the results with the docor who ordered the tests as s/he has other information as well.

What does having elevated liver enzymes in a child usually mean?

Irritation vs error

Rollerblading
A first thought is to make sure the standards being applied to the lab are those for kids in the age group & not adults. Growing kids will have enzyme numbers that are different from adult. If valid for the kids age range, the enzyme numbers usually reflect irritation of the liver cells. This can be stress from a toxic exposure, an infection or metabolic disease.

What can elevated liver enzymes mean in a newborn besides liver disease?

Elevated liverenzyme

Liver
For liver enzymes to get elevated you need to have inflamation in the liver, so anything that does that can increase the liver enzymes including infections, congenital abnormalities. You should talk to the newborn's Pediatrician for a clearer answer, as he/she will know ur newborn better..
