What Does It Mean If Your T3 Level Is Low
What does it mean if most of my thyroid levels are in the low normal range and my T3 (liothyronine) is low?
My TSH 3rd generation level came back at 9.490. MY T4 was normal and T3 (liothyronine) was low.Taking 200 mcg. What do these numbers mean?
Still hypothyroid: Not sure how long u have been on thyroid replacement, but if been on 200mcg daily over 6-8 weeks, likely require increase dose. If u have just had u'r medication adjusted the. Repeat TSH usually done in 6 wks; the numbers show that u'r body is still in hypothyroid state and that u'r thyroid gland is making less and less hormone or the T4 is not being converted to T3, (liothyronine) so thyroid medicine needed ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can Lamotrigine (Lamictal) affect TSH levels?
Also, what do low TSH mean (if T3 (liothyronine) and T4 are normal)?
Not alot: Thyroid interaction is not common with Lamictal, however as with all medications for each individual that can be a possibility. As to your low TSH that is usually a resonse to elevated T3, (liothyronine) T4. Remember that there can be variations in your thyroid measurements from one time to another. How do you feel. Do you have thyoid symptoms: cold, tired, fatigued, skin or nail changes? ...Read more
I'm hypothyroid , i take eltroxin .Tsh and T4 levels are normal but free T3 (liothyronine) is a bit low. What that mean?
Likely normal: All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the test is usually in the best position to do that. You may wish to discuss the matter with your doctor at the next visit. ...Read more
Does a very low level TSH hormone mean hypo - or hyperthyroidism? T3 (liothyronine) is normal range, T4 is at the low level borderline.
Low TSH: Generally indicates an excess in thyroid hormone. That may be chronic w/hyperthyroidism -- or temporary w/thyroid inflammation. See you doctor. If you're already on thyroid replacement, the dose is too high. If you're on t3, (liothyronine) get off of it as it can be dangerous and doesn't work well as chronic replacement. Use brand name T4 only. ...Read more
Could a low TSH (.28) & normal T3 (liothyronine) & T4 levels mean a Pituitary issue? Or is that more typical of hypothyroidism? Would high Chloride (111) effect it?
Means pituitary is: A TSH of 0.28 with normal free T4 and free T3 (liothyronine) likely means the pituitary is working properly. A TSH of 0.1-0.4 is lower than the reference range, which means about 2.5% of normal people have a TSH or 0.1-0.4. Thus, one hopes she is normal. Her endocrinologist can follow and recheck her levels in 4-6 weeks to confirm that her levels are stable (TSH not dropping lower; T4 or T3 (liothyronine) not above normal). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 12 year old dayghter's T3 level is 208 and her T4 is normal. Her glucose is high, her vitamin d level is low, her platelets are high and she has sickle cell trait. What does this all mean?
Not enough details: Hard to tell what's happening from just numbers. A doctor can evaluate the patient along with the test results, and take into consideration what meds the patient takes, what symptoms she has, why the tests were ordered, what the "units" of measurement were, what the "normal values" of the tests were, etc... For starters, this patient may need a TSH test, and some vitamin d supplements. ...Read more
Possibly nothing: If your other thyroid tests are normal, the low T3 (liothyronine) is probably irrelevant. T3 (liothyronine) levels in the cell are what's important, not in the blood stream -- except for highly elevated T3 (liothyronine) which can indicate an overactive thyroid. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Probably not : Too much. It's slightly higher than normal, but the test is not a part of the routine thyroid evaluation and has very few indications. A freet4 and a TSH are much more helpful. Talk w/your doctor. ...Read more

HiTSH=hypo,hiT4 hype: Thyroid function is measured many ways. The TSH is your body's call for more hormone, so a high TSH suggests underactive thyroid, very low TSH overactive. The t4/t3 levels are measures of circulating hormone, so high T4 or T3 (liothyronine) suggest hyperthyroidism and vice versa. T4 levels can beaffected by hormones and so need to be interpreted carefully. For initial testing, the TSH alone best test. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can you get hypothyroid symptoms from low levels of t3 (liothyronine) only? Would this be treated?
Doubtful: The T3 (liothyronine) test is not as reliable as the free T4 test and it is not rare to see patients with somewhat low or high T3 (liothyronine) levels whose thyroid is working properly. If your total or free T4 and your TSH are normal I would not be concerned about your T3 (liothyronine). We mainly treat when TSH is elevated. ...Read more
T3 (liothyronine) level was 2.3, with 2.0 being the low point of the range. Would this be considered hypothyroid?
Possibly, depends on:: Most docs would say that it is fine. I disagree. The "normal range" is where 95% of folks lie, but I believe at least 20% of people are clinically hypothyroid and about 3/4 of those have "normal tests." I find most of my patients who are hypothyroid remain symptomatic until their Free T3 (liothyronine) is in the upper half of the range.
