What does it mean if your creatinine level is too high 1.16 and your bun/creatinine ratio is very low at a 5?
Why do you ask?: Labs mean nothing in the absence of a clinical history. You might be a vegan bodybuilder. When I was lifting weights every day, my creatinine ran 1.6-1.8. The fellow-pathologists with whom I've discussed it think that reports generated by labs are causing overdiagnosis of renal disease (it's subscience -- "there's an adjustment for race because black people are more muscular.") ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
My son is 16 years old 5'10" 162 lbs. I was told his creatinine level was a bit high (1.1). What does this mean? How will this affect him?
Whoa: Unless junior's personal physician very much disagrees, i'd ignore it. The "reference range" was set for non-exercising adults. Any teenaged boy with good muscles will have creatinine 1.1 or higher; in whole classes of athletic med students, most men had creatinine above this. When i was lifting daily, mine was 1.6; a bodybuilder often has 2.0. Too many lawyers and too little common sense. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My mother is 84 years old with a creatinine of 1.9 and a calcium level of 11.4 what does this mean?
No simple answer: These values could at worst be an indication of multiple myeloma. Or more likely, she has some kidney impairment due to age and high blood pressure and perhaps the elevated calcium is due to her hydrochlorothiazide. The findings could be caused by hyperparathyroidism. The parathyroid glands are imbedded im the thyroid gland in the neck and sometimes surgery can be necessary to fix this. See doc. ...Read more
What does it mean if my CREATININE LEVEL is always 118 or 119 uMOL/L? The normal range is 50-120. For the 8th time, my CREA is always 119.
Could just be you: Reference ranges are set for couch-potatoes and if you're a well-muscled man, you'll have creatinine high, often above the "normal". And ranges are set arbitrarily to have a few percent of healthies outside on either end. Keep managing your hypertension and don't worry so much about creatinine. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
For 9 times, my CREATININE level is 119 uMOL/L. The normal range is 50-120. However, yesterday my CREATININE is 81.54. What does this mean?
Good numbers.: This is a normal value. It means that your kidneys are very efficient at clearing waste products from your blood stream or you have been drinking a lot of fluid. ...Read more
Interpretation: Serum creatinine is affected by protein intake, gender, age, race, muscular build, and renal function. A rising creatinine is always of concern. "normal" on lab tests is generally less than 1.2 mg/dl. Renal function can be estimated with a more complex formula or measured with a 24 h urine collection. ...Read more
