Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine).... Aka: Hydroxychloroquine basically has two uses, (1) immune modulation in autoimmune disorders like ra, and (2) malaria prophylaxis. Not sure why you are taking it, but one of its side effects is hemolytic anemia in the setting of g6pd deficiency. If you have developed anemia on this drug, you might have def or a hypomorphic phenotype for g6pd. This can be tested. If so, you will need an alternative. ...Read more
