What are some reasons for an infant to have mucousy stool? He's 3 1/2 months old and i've only noticed it once so far, but its making me nervous!

The most likely culprits, if allergy, would be milk and/or egg but soy is possible as well. It is normal as is the loose or mucousy consistency. The germs in the gut will also impact the final product. I'd just monitor the issue and discuss your concerns with the doc at the next regular visit. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My baby is 4 months old and strictly breastfed. Why was there a long, green, mucusy, stringy thing in her poop?
Stool varies: Stool color, consistency etc. Varies with diet, hydration, viruses, etc. Granted the baby's diet hasn't changed, but sometimes the poop is effected by what mom eats.
