Varies a lot: Some people state they feel absolutely the same whether on or off a stimulant, even though others observe huge behavioral differences. Others definitely notice effects, good & bad, such as better attention and productivity as well as no appetite that fade as the medicine wears off. Still others have "rebound, " being irritable & even more symptomatic for awhile before returning to baseline. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Doctor: You just don't "get these drugs" so you can concentrate better. These are powerful drugs that are indicated after a very thorough medical and psychological work-up that shows significant impairment in life due to the symptoms. Works for some: Another drug, that works well for some people, & doesn't work for others. In my expereience it doesn't work as often as the stimulant meds, but if people can't tolerate the stimulants, it is nice to have this option. It does need to be taken on an increasing dose over about a month. If it does work, it works most of the day from just one dose. Like an antidepressant, you need it in your system. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Rough estimate below: D-amphetamine (dexedrine) is about twice as potent as methylphenidate (ritalin), so 10 mg of the former is roughly the same as 20 mg of the latter. Adderall is a mixture of 1/2 d-amphetamine plus 1/2 d- & l-amphetamine (the latter being inactive with respect to adhd. So, conversion from Ritalin to Adderall is about 20 mg down to 15 mg. But, individual response varies, so that's just a start. ...Read more
