See below: Normal range for absolute neutrophil count is: 1.5 to 8.0 (1, 500 to 8, 000/mm3), inflammation/infection is the commonest cause of elevated neutrophil count. See this site for more information. http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/208576-overview#a30 it would be prudent to discuss the results with your doctor who ordered the test. All lab tests need to be interpreted in the clinical context. ...Read more

I have high absolute neutrophils. Whats this mean?

Hard to say: Any lab result gives a number that is compared to a range of normal. But even the extremes of "too high" can still be normal for an individual. If the result is a change, then a high neutrophil count makes me think of infection(since that is one of the bodies responses), inflammation, stress, reaction to medication or even cancer like leukemia. Talk with provider who ordered test to put in context. ...Read more

Neutrophils : Neutrophils are white blood cells that help to fight bacterial infections. The absolute neutrophil count (anc) is used to assess how many neutrophils a person has. A count that is too low can put you at risk for bacterial infections. A high count can indicate that your body is fighting an infection, or can be from an inflammatory injury such as a burn, heart attack or appendicitis. People who do not have a spleen also can have a higher than normal anc. It can even be caused by medications (such as steroids) or stress. Very rarely a high anc can indicate malignancy such as chronic myelogenous leukemia, but people usually have other signs and symptoms, also. Because of this very wide range of high anc causes, the context in which the test was ordered and how high it actually is is very important. If you are worried about your test result, call the doctor that ordered the test and ask what they were looking for and if your high anc is a concern. ...Read more

What do low platelet levels mean?
Platelet level of 116 low
wbc 3.6 low
lymphs 61% high
neutrophils 22% low
neutrophils (absolute) low

Possibilities...: The most common cause is something called viral suppression, where certain viral infections can transiently impair the bone marrow's ability to produce platelets, white blood cells and red blood cells. This will improve on its own as your body clears the infection. Less common, but serious causes include aplastic anemia or leukemia. Watchful waiting is ok if the person does not appear sick. ...Read more

What does it mean to have a high monocytes and low neutrophils absolute count while I am taking Nexavar, a chemotherapy for advanced thyroid cancer?

Effect of chemo: Low neutrophils are expected with chemotherapy agents, as the drugs destroy them (in the process of destroying the cancerous cells.) High monocyte count can be due to an infection or inflammation. Also, as the blood counts recover after a dose of chemo, the monocyte count can also be temporarily improved. Good luck with your cancer treatment. ...Read more

The : The laboratories that are off are just a tiny bit off, the only ones that are significant are the hemoglobin and hematocrit, as these labs show anemia. Anemia can be caused by iron deficiency, and other causes of low blood count. Ask your doctor of recommendations for your anemia. ...Read more

Probably not: Significant if you have normal total WBC count and you don't have any symptoms. If you want to be sure, you can have your doctor repeat the test in a few weeks just to be sure. ...Read more

What does it mean to have a high abs neutrophils count?

Usually an infection: The absolute neutrophil count is the product of the % neutrophils & total wbc. A high absolute neutrophil count is usually seen in many types of infections. Other causes are inflammatory conditions, stress, medications like steroids, lithium, injections like growth factors, cushing's disease and sometimes some forms of chronic leukemia or myeloproliferative disorders ( blood disorder). ...Read more

What does it mean if my monocytes are low and neutrophils are high?

Relative v.absolute?: The percentages can be misleading. One must really look at the absolute amounts of both. Depending on the circumstances, a true absolute neutrophilia may be caused by a list of conditions too long to list here. In most cases, the low monocyte count is due to the relative expansion of neutrophils (infections, smoking, trauma, autoimmune conditions, even some cancers). Your md should be able to help. ...Read more
