Saw something on tv today about herpes infection killing babies. Is this complete lies? I thought herpes was just a rash and NOT DEADLY at all?
Reality bites: A baby born to a mother during her first herpes outbreak has a significant risk of developing herpes encephalitis and dying or ending up with severe brain damage. That risk drops significantly for recurrent outbreaks but some have c-section deliveries to avoid any risk. I've cared for these babies born to mothers who were not aware of the problem. A brain damaged baby is not what they wanted. ...Read more
Other sources: 80-90% of all adults are positive for the antibodies against herpes simplex 1, meaning they have had an active infection sometime in the past. Given these really high numbers for the general population, one does not need to invoke that a blood transfusion that happened as an infant was the cause. ...Read more
My baby has fluid blisters on his arm and then also on his face appearing just today. Could it look like herpes and be something else?
Rash: Rashes are so difficult to diagnose, without looking at them. Also, I don't know your baby's age. If baby is a newborn, he/she would more than likely be deathly sick with herpes. With older children, there are many rashes, like this. If itchy, it could be poison ivy. Chicken pox, also itchy, if baby has not been immunized against it. Herpes is very painful, and usually is not widespread, like thi. ...Read more

Would does herpes look like are they cluster of blisters or is is one cut. I had a concie. Reacur.? Cut on clot went to doc but she couldn't take swab
I'll take a shot: I'm not certain of all your words due to typos, but herpes does typically look like a small cluster of blisters on the skin, but on the genital/vulvar tissues it is more like open sores that are ulcerated/have an irregular surface. They are painful and itchy and testing is usually possible. Persist with efforts to get diagnosis if symptoms persist; current & future therapy is specific & effective. ...Read more
Does herpes look like jock itch? Could it look like a skin yeast infection? Dr. thinks I have jock itch. But rash has been in bikini line for 2months.
Varies: Herpes of the genital area can just be a reddened area but classically is a small group of clear blisters. This area is paiful, tingles and can get crusty. It is like a fever blister (only it is not a fever blister). Usually clinically diagosed but can absolutely be diagnosed if cultured and positive. Practice safe sex or you will continue to get the gift that keeps on giving! ...Read more
