If ascites is severe enough to make lying in bed extremely uncomfortable should we go to the emergency room? Diagnosed with esophageal cancer that has spread to the abdomen. Ascites causing extreme discomfort. He took his pain meds and still cannot lay
When: When ascites causes abdominal discomfort or pain it is generally accepted that enough fluid fluid should be removed from the abdomen for comfort. More importantly, evaluation of the abdomen to ensure that there has not been a colon or esophageal rupture is vitally important. Evaluation for infection causing the accumulation of fluid is also part of the evaluation. The sooner the patient is diagnosed with a potential infection or rupture, the sooner treatment can begin. Extreme discomfort to the point of not being able to lye down would be considered a medical emergency and urgent evaluation should occur. If you are unsure, someone should be on call for your oncologist. Calling them in these type of situations can be very helpful as they can direct you specifically where to go and coordinate your care.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Ascites often can be removed in the office (called paracentesis), sometimes with ultrasound guidance. The more important question is identifying the etiology of the ascites (cirrhosis, malignant, portal htn, infection, etc). Otherwise, if the primary cause is not addressed, paracentesis is only a short term solution (palliative and/or cosmetic).
Is possible that ca125 to be elevated in an abdominal sarcoidosis (peritoneal, hepatic sarcoidosis plus ascites)?
No association!!: Something else is causing this. And abdominal sarcoid is extraordinarily rare. Crohn's is more likely to do cause abdominal and hepatic granulomata, but neither are associated with increased ca125.

I am 37 weeks pregnant and did a scan that says fetal abdominal Ascites and bilateral fetal scrotal hydrocele were noticed?
Here are some...: I would no jump into the conclusion by the one ultrasound image; it is reasonable to wait and see with repeating another ultrasound in 4-5 weeks for comparison as long as fetal growth and your healthy state in line with a normally expected pregnancy and since it is hard to do anything about it if any fetal congenital abnormality has formed. More? Ask your obs-gyn doctor for detail. Best wish...
I have extreme episodes of rock hard abdominal distention. Ct ruled out bowel enlargement and ascites. Angioedema ruled out. What else could it be?
"Digestive Disease": Many digestive problems are associated with transient episodes of bloating including gallbladder disease & irritable bowel syndrome, to name a few. I suggest you see a GI specialist: if all organic causes are excluded, it is likely related to your diet, in which case you may benefit from working with a nutritionist. Good luck!
