Heart problems: Probnp is released by the ventricular muscle when there is extra strain upon the muscle, such as in cases of decrease heart function (left or right side). Why was this test drawn? One may ideally have an appointment with a cardiologist, including an echocardiogram and ecg. ...Read more
My pro bnp is 227. Lab values are 0 -138 are normal. How serious is this still elevated number? It has been steadily falling from 8000 on 3/13/13.
CHF: Having the bnp number go down, is the most important thing! compared to 8000, 227 is pretty darn good! control factors like blood pressure, wear compression socks for swelling, and take diuretics as directed by doc. Call doc asap with any sudden onset of swelling with wt gain or shortness of breath--could mean another CHF exacerbation. Watch fluid intake and salt intake as directed. ...Read more
SVT episode last night. EKG was normal, Troponin negative and BNP was 215. Can an episode of SVT cause elevated BNP?
Check out these: Links.Anp is secreted or produced in the atriumn of the heart while bnp is secreted in the ventricles. Both are secreted in response to increase blood volume and stretching of the heart muscles. As a result, the vascular resistance and blood pressure are decreased. Pro-bnp: this peptide is elevated in patients with volume overload and elevated pressures in the heart..it can also be elevated in patients with renal issues...you should be seen and examined by an expert in cardiovascular care if you have not been seen by one already ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not necessarily: Bnp goes up when your volume of fluids in your body is overloaded. This dilates your atrium chambers in your heart leading to secretion of bnp which is meant to increase salt and water loss via kidneys to correct the problem. The mere increase in creatinine may not be associated with increase of bnp. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
BNP: Brain Natriuretic Peptide. In general terms BNP can be interpreted as follows. A normal BNP level makes the diagnosis of Heart Failure unlikely (rule out test) •A high BNP level makes the diagnosis of HF very likely (rule in or confirm test) •Intermediate values of BNP require careful interpretation, in light of patients age (consider age-adjusted cut-off values) and co-existing conditions. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
