Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

Had my lungs checked out, told I have upper resperitory infect. They said my lungs sounded clear but deminished... What does that mean?

No pneumonia: Generally, although not always, when you have pneumonia and listen to the lungs you can hear "rales" which are faint cracking noises on inspiration. Diminution of breath sounds can occur for many reasons, and since it is a very subjective assessment it may not be at all significant. If you are ill it might help to have a chest x-ray if your doctor is concerned. Best. ...Read more

Doc said Mri of aorta can be bad because of air in lungs and picture can be hard to get clear does this mean he uses bad technique?

Since MRI images take time to generate, often longer than one can hold their breath. So imaging anything near the lungs can difficult since there is movement with normal quiet breathing. ...Read more

Whay does this mean " the lung fields are clear and consider perihilar pneumonitis, bilateral? Can my son still go with his operation/surgery?

Depends on situation: If the kid will be placed under an inhaled general anesthesia, such a reading on an x-ray might lead the treatment team to delay an elective operation. A lung disorder can be aggravated by inhaled anesthetics & lead to worsening of the lung status. Discussion of the findings with your doc is indicated. ...Read more

Lungs given as source of sepsis, some days later lungs were clear. But sepsis remained. Does this mean source of sepsis was wrong. Litle info sorry?

Sepsis.: In your scenario, your description doesn't mean that the discovered source of the sepsis was incorrect. It may simply mean that your body is still recovering. Sepsis is a serious matter, and people are still in recovery from it long after the source of the infection is cleared. Be patient. Drink fluids. Rest when you feel you need to. Visit your doctor often until you're at 100%. ...Read more

Would a clear chest X-ray mean there is no lung cancer?

Would a clear chest X-ray mean there is no lung cancer?

Not necessarily: Chest xrays are not regarded as good lung cancer screening tools. Ct-scan, while imperfect, is currently the best demonstrated screening tool for lung cancer. A proper protocol chest ct will use about the same radiation as a mammogram.

Ok so I got a CT scan of the abdoman done with contras. Said lung base was clear so dose that mean I do not have a hiatl hurnea?

Maybe: The comment about your lung bases specifically refers to your lungs and is actually irrelevant to whether or not you have a hernia. If you did have a hiatal hernia the radiologist should have commented on it directly. If there is no mention of a hernia, you probably don't have one. You can ask your doctor to review the ct scan with that specific question in mind if you want to be sure. ...Read more

I took the eatly cdt lung cancer test. They were all negative except the mage4. Ct was clear. Does this mean I have cancer elsewhere? Or it is to come

Unclear: Not sure why test was performed. The data of this test/technology is still preliminary. Antibody biochemical assays may identify the presence of tumor/cancer years before they are large enough to find by radiology; therefore before we can actually treat. If used, results should be integrated into overall risk assessment, screening, surveillance. Test should not be routinely employed without a plan. ...Read more

I feel short of breath a lot but my doctor says my chest X-ray is clear. does this mean that my lungs are ok?

No: Chest x-ray can diagnose some lung conditions, but not others. Much more information is needed to even start answering this question. Age? Industrial exposures? Emotional issues? Findings on physical exam? . More tests may be necessary, such as pulmonary function studies, and others. Cold, ear infection, alternative dry cough and wet cough for a month. Chest Xray showed clear lungs, chronic appearing lung scarring but no Pnuemonia. Smoker. Urgent care doctor suggested to see Pulmonary specialist. What does this mean? Is scar a problem?

Nothing specific: The x-ray is really just a good screening tool and sometimes picks up old issues with little if any importance but if never seen before lead to more testing to make sure no treatment is needed. Smokers can have "dirty lungs" as can asthmatics. The term "scar" is a gestimate. It might be an old calcified lymph node or something worrisome.Urgent care is not the venue to pursue a head scratcher. ...Read more
