What Does Bowel Regularity Mean A Bowel Movement Every Day
The gastrointestinal tract starts at the mouth, travel down the tunnel (esophagus), which connects to the stomach, which then empties into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum---the three parts of the small intestine (@25 feet). This empties into the colon or large intestine (about 5 feet), which then becomes the sigmoid colon, rectum and out the anus. So, every morsel eaten ...Read more
Get checked out!: It's never normal to see blood in the stool! The cause does not have to be serious but you need to know whether or not it is something to be concerned about. Hemorrhoids to colon cancer and several other possibilities can all appear as blood in the stool every now and then. A colonoscopy test performed by a gastroenterologist is the most definitive way of checking this out. ...Read more
I feel exhausted after almost every bowel movement, even when I don't strain. But I'll be fine before. What could it mean?
Depends: If this is recent you may have a virus which may just resolve on its own. If it has been a long term problem review this withyour doctor and see if you need labs to check for anemia or blood in your stool or thyroid problems. If you have recently been checked and told you were fine and not pregnant then it will probably resolve on its own. ...Read more
Hi I am 24 male I suffer from irregular bowel movement every day. So please suggest me what should I do.?
You're not abnormal: Irregularity is common & does not necessarily signal abnormality. Average stool pattern in america fits a bell-curve, ranging from 3 movements daily to one every 3-4 days. Try adding fiber (fruits, vegetables, whole grains) or commercial water soluble supplements to "regulate" stools. Raise concern if bleeding, weight loss, localizing abdominal pain or a personal/family history of colitis, cancer. ...Read more

I have a bowel movement every day but it's always dry and grainy like sheep stool. I've tried everything: fiber, water, fruits, veggies, nothing work!
I SEE NO PROBLEM:
As long as you are moving your bowels daily and there are no other symptoms and you are not taking any medicine and have no coexisting medical condition. I will not worry about the stools which are grainy and dry
You should continue high fiber diet and increased fluids. But if you have any other symptoms than consult your doctor.
But at next doctor's visit discuss your concerns as well ...Read more
Is it normal not to have bowel movement every day after the gastric bypass. I got it 4 years ago and I stay constipated and I drink plenty of water.
See below: Constipation is also seen in patients following bariatric surgery. This occurs more commonly after LAGB and RNYGBP and is less likely with DS, although it may occur in rare cases with DS. It is usually due to insufficient intake of water, and may be corrected by diligent attention to water ingestion and the addition of fiber products like Metamucil or Fibercon. ...Read more
Is there any health benefit to have a bowel movement twice a day as appose to once every three days? Please explain, thanks
16 yrs. Lost 35 lb in 6 months by eating more vegetables, less of everything else. Before diet bowel movement once a day. Now only every 3 days. Why?
Water: Veggies and fruit have lots of water. Eating efficiently and properly matching your physiological needs may have set a new baseline for you. Every 3rd day is a big change but not abnormal. The water in the veggies is absorbed, esp. If you are dehydrated. With less fats and proteins in your diet and in the gut, you have less fluid dynamics providing pressure for release. This is not my field, so.. ...Read more
I have been getting bloated more and more latley even if I don't eat but it gets worse after a bowel movement which I have every day why is that?
Gas: If the bloating is due to gas, the question is whether you are forming excessive gas or are not passing normal amounts of gas. To reduce gas, try simethicone 1/2hour after meals. Drinking hot water helps break down trapped gas. You may be gluten or lactose intolerant. A gastroenterologist is best qualified to evaluate and treat you if symptoms persist. ...Read more
My 4 year is having trouble having a bowel movement. She only goes a little every time and she goes 8-10 times a day. Is there anything I can do.
Constipation: Constipation in a four year old can often be hard to treat. Some of it depends if your child is potty trained and if she doesn't mind sitting on the potty. Treatment involves two components--1. Medication to help her go more completely and 2. Behavioral training to help her relax more while sitting. Definitely go see her pediatrician so you can get a formal plan of attack. ...Read more
