An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
What to do if I have a fairly large lump on the side of my neck. the ultrasound showed a small lymph node. what now?
Had an ultrasound on small lump on neck today, since the probe pressed on it my lump is smaller, like it pushed it in. What could it be?
I have had an ultrasound. My neck lumps are not from lymph nodes, so what else could it be? I have 3 on right side
Few things: Could be estill small lymphnodes not picked up by us, could be things called branchial cysts which could be anatomical remnants of some clefts we had suring development as a foetus inside mother's womb, soft tissue tumors-benign ones -called lipomas/fibromas/neiurofibromas etc. If not causing pain, if not fast growing , if not identifiedas thyroid tissue sitting in some other place like neck, no worry. ...Read more
I had FBC done after finding a lump in neck. results came back "satisfactory" and nothing else was said. Still waiting on ultrasound. is that good?
Yes it is!: There are many different causes for a neck lump. Taking an accurate history and performing a thorughly examination often brings forth the diagnosis. The FBC was probably performed to exclude a tumour of the blood such a lymphoma, and to see the result as 'satisfactory' is reassuring. The USS will help further with this diagnosis and don't be surprised if they say they want to a biopsy. ...Read more
My doctor has sent me for an ultrasound because of lumps in my neck, what could the test find? Could something be wrong if he's asked for a test?
Not to worry yet: Depends on the location and size of the lump. Sometimes "lump" is normal neck tissue or just a small lymph node. Getting an ultrasound doesn't necessarily something is wrong. Ultrasound of the neck can survey lymph nodes, salivary and thyroid glands, etc. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Was sent to get a neck ultrasound for a lump found during physical. The radiologist who conducted the ultrasound said she could not find the lump that my primary care dr found but instead found an oval hole on the left side of my neck that she said was in
Ultrasound: Sometimes a doctor may feel something and ask for a ultrasound. If the radiologist can not find anything then your doctor may have been feeling normal structures and was just making sure. You can ask your doctor to make a mark on your neck and repeat sonogram. I am not sure what a oval hole. It may have been a benign cyst or a benign appearing lymph nose or a lipoma. Ask them to explain. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Small hard lump deep within neck for two months. Ultrasound results say "No visible mass. There is shadowing 5 mm calcification in the deep soft tissue of the left posterior neck, seems to correspond to a palpable lump".
Feeling scared about this?
Neck lump: Great that you had it checked. Did you have any sort of prior injury to that spot? Even acne can leave a calcification behind after it heals. Did the radiologist recommend repeating the sonogram in 6-12 months? Might help to see if there is a change over time. Don't worry, but do recheck it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
