What Does An Abnormally Shaped Gestational Sac Mean
My doctor said my gestational sac was abnormally shaped. What does that mean? And should I be worried
Followup is needed: Gestational sacs can vary somewhat in shape. However, if an experienced ultrasonographer thinks a sac is irregular, then a followup study is usually scheduled. At that time both the sac and fetus can be evaluated. ...Read more
Does an irregular shaped gestational sac mean miscarriage if baby is measuring 6w5d and heart beat 126? I am 6w6d.
Not necessarily: Having a fetal heart beat and measurements consistent with dates are reassuring. Most ob/gyn would simply follow one with serial ultrasounds until they are reassured that the baby continues to grow normally. ...Read more

Transvag ultrasound @ 6wk3d shows good heartbeat but gestational sac measures smaller (1.6cm) and is cloudy. What could this mean?
Heartbeat: Seeing the heartbeat greatly proves the odds that pregnancy will not miscarry. I haven't heard of someone saying the sac was 'cloudy' before. Sac size --inform differs from your LMP -- is okay. Just means you ovulated at different time. I would ask for another ultrasound in 2-3 weeks if you're worried, but also know that good heartbeat means a lot. ...Read more

Lmp-8/17/2012. Last ovulation 09/20/12. Md said I was about 8 wks, however they could not see a gestational sac on u/s. What could this mean?
Conflicting: If you conceived from your LMP in august you should be around 8 weeks - but you can guaranteed see a gestational sac in a normal pregnancy at 8 weeks. Otoh if your last ovulation (how do you know 9/20 if your last period was 8/17?) was 9/20, it might still be early to see a sac. Then of course you are not at 8 weeks. ...Read more

What does it mean when the baby and placenta are sitting low and have a misshapen gestational sac and has a heart beat at 104 and measures 6 1/2 week?
Doomed pregnancy?: Ideally, in a viable pregnancy the gestational sac is spherical and is located in the fundus, the upper part of the uterus, and the fetus' heart rate is above 100 bpm. In your case two out of these three criteria are not met, raising concern that the pregnancy may end in a miscarriage. At the end of the day what is important, though, is the absence of bleeding and cramping. ...Read more

Does a teardrop shaped gestational sac at 6weeks of pregnancy suggest something bad? A yolk sac and a heartbeat could be seen. Thank you!

The doctor is saying that my gestational sac is measuring too small and the baby is too big for it I am 8 w 2 d does that mean miscarriage?
Heart beat?: The most important thing to find out was if there was a fetus with a heartbeat visualized on the sonogram located inside of the uterus. If so then this is good news. The size of the gestational sac is not likely to be a contributory data point if the rest is true. You can ask your doctor to explain what was meant by a small gestational sac ...Read more

Had tvs earlier due to 8 days bleeding and saw empty gestational sac. I'm 7w6d but gs age is only 6w5d. Sonographer said to repeat tvs after 1 week to rule in or out blighted ovum. What does that mean?
What will be will be: Let nature do what it does, and not worry until after next week's scan. That is because only a portion of conceptions become successful pregnancies. Nature weeds out genetic mutations and other abnormal embryos, in trying to preserve the human species. It has worked fairly well thus far, bringing us here from even before our caveman days. Be hopeful, but don't worry. Blighted is failed conception. ...Read more

Possible miscarriage: Based on your LMP 10 weeks ago, we should see fetal pole and cardiac activity today if it is a normal pregnancy.
