What Does An Abnormal Protein Band 1 Indicate
I am told my Glomerular filtration Rate is 57.6. Does this indicate Kidney disease? Creatinine is 1.0 BUN is 20 total Protein is 7.0 I am 55 w/f
GFR: Your Estimated filtration rate is borderline. This is not a problem itself. The important concern is whether disease exists that might be progressive. Serum creatinine of 1.0 is "normal". So is serum creatinine 1.1. However, creatinine relates to muscle mass. If you are small muscled as a. 55 yo woman, then creatinine of 1.1 or 1.0 may indicate some minor impairment in its excretion. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Bone marrow disorder: It means that you are making too much of a single antibody or just a part of an antibody because one clone of plasma cells from your bone marrow has developed over the normal population. This can be a benign condition for many years or progress into a condition called multiple myeloma that needs treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, An M spike may be a benign monoclonal gammopathy or a marker for a bone cancer. You ought to consult the doctor who ordered the test as more information is needed to assess this finding. ...Read more
What does ABNORMAL PROTEIN BAND 1, SER/PLAS, BAND 2 and BAND 3 mean on labs. It doesn't give values. All other labs are normal.
Protein band: If this is a serum electrophoresis or immunoelectrophoresis it suggests presence of an abnormal protein such as seen in gammopathy or multiple myeloma. A hematologist is best qualified to evaluate and advise you and further testing, such as bone marrow biopsy, may be advised depending upon that assessment. ...Read more
Are high lymphocytes (absolute and %) along with .2 abnormal protein band (m-protein) anything to worry about? Is further testing required?
Need more infor: Not enough infor to make judgement. Get a full CBC for review. High lymphocytes can be from viral infection. Also not sure why you get serum protein electrophosis. Given the m-protein (small), I suggest immunofixation to determine polyclonal vs monoclonal. Polyclonal means infection or inflammation. Monoclonal means either benign or malignant plasma cell dz or lymphoma. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Blood work shows gam globulin low at 0.7 and M-spike,SPE, g/fl abnormal at 0.3. Two para protein bands in gam. Region. How serious is this?
Need more info: I am assuming that you had a serum electrophoresis performed for one reason or another. The "normal" and "abnormal" in this case can only be judged in context rather than in absolutes, so more information is necessary. Did you have a urine electrophoresis? Any other results? Free light chains? Did your doctor state that you have protein in the urine? ...Read more
It is harmless: Proteins in food are important, most adults require 50-60 grams per day. So anything over 70-80 grams is excessive. But proteins are harmless, the body can digest , use them as needed and get rid of the extra through the urine..So the excess is basically wasted via the urine. ...Read more
Animal protein!: Proteins that are not plant based have proportional amino axcid composition to your body's muscle. Lean fish, poultry, and meat. Milk protein is great, as are eggs. The least expensive supplements are made of whey protein (milk). Don't pay more for "hydrolyzed" proteins (pre-digested into amino acids. The claims they work better are unsubstantiated! ...Read more
