Most of the time the fluid is normal and represents blood products due to menstruation, but strictly speaking we cannot know for sure so we say "free fluid." an ultrasound is usually helpful if you haven't had one yet. ...Read more

Depends: If you had a ct scan of your abdomen and pelvis and the results included the above, they may be incidental findings, unless you have symptoms. A uterus > 13cm, an ovary >3cm should be evaluated. It does happen with er visits and imaging that you get a secondary benefit by knowing something is amiss before you have symptoms. However, if you see bright red blood/bleeding in your stool- then you should see your doctor for more evaluation to see where is the source of the bleeding.
