What Does A Positive Ovulation Test Mean
No: The ovulation test looks like a pregnancy test, but they measure different things in the urine. The ovulation test measures the hormonal increase (lh surge) that leads to ovulation. A positive test means that you will likely ovulate in the next 24 hours. The pregnancy test usually measures a specific hormone secreted by the developing pregnancy (beta-hcg), so a positive test indicates pregnancy. ...Read more
If u get a positive ovulation test, does that mean u already ovulated? Or u r about to? What does it mean?
Generally.: Ovulation detection kits are generally accurate and if they show a surge then generally you will ovulate, or release an egg, approximately 26-40 hours later. Occasionally, but not often, you will be a false positive. The odk will show a surge but you did not really ovulate. Uncommon but possible. If you doubt the odk, either try another kit and/or switch to basal body temperature charts. ...Read more
Elevated luteinizing hormone.:
There are several possible answers to your question. First you had your ovulation wrong and in fact you going to ovulate five days late.
Second, you had it wrong the other way and in fact lobulated earlier and the positive ovulation kit is actually registering HCG that is to say you are pregnant.
Third, you are actually not ovulating and have chronically elevated luteinizing hormone levels such as occurs often in PC os, polycystic ovarian syndrome. ...Read more
I am taking Clomid, (clomiphene) I am 7 days late and my pregnancy test was négative. I always had a positive ovulation test, it was day 14. What could this mean?
Trying to get pregnant and I been haveing a positive ovulation test for the past 5 days, I just got my period on dec 2 what could could that mean?
Several options: Once the ovulation test is positive, its not necessary (and often quite confusing) to keep testing. You can save the remaining tests for the next cycle! If you began bleeding shortly after a positive ovulation test, it can mean you are having ovulation related bleeding. This isn't a full blown period usually just some spotting. If it was a full blown period, then you had a short cycle. ...Read more
Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

My wife is on Clomid (clomiphene) and day 18 of her cycle and hasn't had a positive OPK test yet? Does this mean she won't ovulate this month?
Ovulation: Ovulation is an event. It is the release of an egg from the ovary. It causes pain or cramping that many females learn how to recognize. This is known as mittelschmerz. Ovulation kits try to predict ovulation by a surge in hormones or a change in hormones. What is much more accurate is knowing that your fertility is high on the five days leading up to the release of the egg. ...Read more
In 12-36 hours: A urine-based OPK detects the increase, or surge, of a hormone called luteinising hormone (LH) that occurs approximately one to two days before ovulation. This is the trigger for ovulation and it's also a signal that your fertile window has arrived. A small amount of LH is always present in your blood and urine. But in the days before ovulation, the amount increases by about two to five times. The 12 to 36 hours between the beginning of the LH surge and the moment when your egg is released is the most fertile part of your cycle and the most likely time for conception. ...Read more
Variable 12h to 3d: Ovulation test detects a surge of the hormone lh in urine. Lh starts to rise approximately 32-36 hours before ovulation and reaches a peak 24 hours before ovulation then falls sharply. So its detection depends on the accuracy of the test and when did you do it at the beginning, height or end of the surge. ...Read more
Is it normal to have a positive ovulation test only for one day? Or it has to be positive more than that?
When should I expect a positive ovulation test, if my ovulation day is Sat, but had a negative result Friday?
Maybe I'm confused?: Generally the test tells you when to expect ovulation, not the other way around. You feel you already know when ovulation will be and are then testing? If you already know you do not need to test. I suggest let the test tell you when to expect ovulation, not the other way around. Good luck. ...Read more
Hi, I had a positive ovulation test on dec 10 and then another positive today on dec 15. Are there any explanations on this?
Why would I get a positive ovulation test one day then negitive results for 6 days then another positive result that only lasted three hours?
Depends: It depends on the test you use. Sometimes using concentrated urine (like the first specimen of the morning) may result in a false positive test. The test measures an lh surge but may have false positive results around the time of ovulation. Perhaps changing the type of test may be helpful if you are not pregnant this month. Good luck! ...Read more
Yes: The ovulation kit only measures a threshold of the hormone lh. Some women constantly have a lh above this level. Therefore they would seem to have a positive surge when in fact the lh level is high. Because this is a urine test the concentration will also change with the dilution of the urine. ...Read more
I had a positive ovulation test on May 19th and just started bleeding on June 19th. Why is that? Is that normal?
Every month I get a positive ovulation test around cd 13 and then a negstive and around cd20 another positive. Why? Which time do I actually ovulate?
Unclear: After you get a positive ovulation test you stop testing as the hormone that triggers ovulation will linger around. At age 19 it is not typical to be needing to take ovulation tests monthly. If you are trying to get pregnant and having trouble then more official ovulation testing can be done. If you are testing to prevent pregnancy then see an obgyn to discuss birth control options. ...Read more
Yes: The ovulation test is checking for lh. When you are pregnant a pregnancy test checks for HCG that is made by the placenta. Hcg and lh are very similar molecules. In fact we use HCG as an injection to trigger ovulation for IUI and ivf cycles. This injection will cause an ovulation test to turn positive. ...Read more
