What Does A Lyme Tick Bite Look Like
What does a tick bite look like and what does it look like if its Lyme disease and what are the symptoms got bit a month ago and spot still there?
Appearance varies: A tick bite can be invisible after the tick detaches, or leave a red spot. When lyme is in the tick, often (but not always) a red rash spreads out in a circle (can be other shapes too) and is often clearing from the center outward. Called a "bull's eye" rash because of its appearance.See 1 more doctor answer

How big is a tick bite that can cause Lyme disease? I have a bite, but am not sure if it’s from a tick. What do tick bites look like?
No: The bulls eye lesion clooks just like it says - a bullseye- central redness then a rim of clearing then a larger rim of redness. Just like a bulls eye.
See below: Sounds like you need to see doctor for an exam to make certain nothing else is going on.
Rash, flu symptom: There are a number of tick borne illnesses. To get lyme disease you would first have to be bitten by an infected tick in an area of the country with lyme disease. The early symptoms are a rash and sometimes fever, headache cold or flu like symptoms. This can be followed by other rashes, neurologic symptoms, joint swelling, joint pain, and cardiac (heart) symptoms.
Other symptoms: In lyme disease, there is usually a "bull's-eye" rash at the site of the tick bite, but this is often missed. Symptoms of more advanced lyme disease can include arthritis, neurological problems, and heart problems. Blood tests can sometimes be helpful in making the distinction. Living in pa, if you had a bite and a rash, treatment for early lyme may be appropriate. Otherwise discuss with your md.
1-2 weeks: If the tick was carrying the bacteria borrelia burgdorferi and the bacteria was transmitted via the bite then most individuals will develop a flu like illness with fevers and muscle pains within a week or two. About half will also develop a bullseye rash at the site of the bite.See 1 more doctor answer
Bite can lead to LD: Tick bites may transmit a variety of illnesses if the tick has been infected with a germ that uses the tick as a carrier. Rocky mountain spotted fever, tick bite fever & lime disease are some of the diseases that can be passed by ticks. Not all ticks carry diseases and not all bites will pass the germ.See 1 more doctor answer
No: Only deer ticks carry the lyme organism, wood ticks do not. Not all deer ticks are infected. The characteristic rash is sometimes easy to miss.
I had a tick bite 5yrs ago with red ring around it. Tested neg for Lyme 1 wk after bite. Many strange symptoms since. Could I still have lyme?
Have you been...: Retested for lyme borreliosis after that original test? What strange symptoms have you had? Do you live in an area where lyme is endemic?See 1 more doctor answer
I have the bullseye rash around a tick bite but no other symptoms of Lyme disease. Should I still get a test done?
Get Rx & blood test!: A bullseye rash around a tick bite is considered proof of lyme disease. If you do not have symptoms yet, you almost certainly will over time. It takes time for a blood test to turn positive & you should not wait for this; the earlier you start treatment the better the outcome. Many lyme specialists advise Doxycycline 200 mg 2x/day for a month to be safe. Also get tested for co-infections like babesia.See 2 more doctor answers
Is a doctor able treat you for Lyme disease if the testing is negative but there are symptoms of Lyme and a tick bite 20 years ago?
Lyme disease: If testing is truly negative then no reason to treat.
I'm just wondering, if you get erythema migrans from a tick bite is it indicative of Lyme disease?
Possibly: That is one cause. There are others.
Yes: Many disesases are spread by tick bites. The lyme disease rash of erythema migrans typically causes a large "bulls eye" or annular rash at the bite site. Southern tick associated rash illness has a similar rash but its smaller and commonly on the trunk. You can also get a bacterial superinfection of a tick bite. See your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.See 3 more doctor answers
I have a tick bite that is 5 days old. It's mildly tender, mildly itchy and looks like a large mosquito bite. I'm not in a Lyme disease region.
Tick borne illnesses: Include many things besides just Lyme. However, most often, a local reaction to a tick bite is simply inflammation; an expanding, red area of tenderness can be cellulitis (a skin infection, often caused by staph bacteria). If it is worsening or you develop a fever, please seek medical attention for proper evaluation and treatment.
I have a bullseye rash around a tick bite but do not have any other symptoms of Lyme disease. Do I need to get a blood test?
Not just Lyme: Avoid being "lyme-centric"! depending on geography, there are several other tick borne diseases (e.g. Anaplasmosis, babesia, human monocytic or granulocytic erlichiosis) that co-infects with lyme (caused by b. Burgdorferi), or else, the diagnosis is something other than lyme (eg. Relapsing fever caused by b. Hermsii & southern tick -associated rash illness [stari] caused by a diffferent tick.See 4 more doctor answers
