What does a tick bite look like and what does it look like if its Lyme disease and what are the symptoms got bit a month ago and spot still there?

Appearance varies: A tick bite can be invisible after the tick detaches, or leave a red spot. When lyme is in the tick, often (but not always) a red rash spreads out in a circle (can be other shapes too) and is often clearing from the center outward. Called a "bull's eye" rash because of its appearance.

How big is a tick bite that can cause Lyme disease? I have a bite, but am not sure if it’s from a tick. What do tick bites look like?

Let me help: A small, red bump may appear at the site of the tick bite. This small bump is normal after a tick bite and doesn't indicate lyme disease. However, over the next few days, the redness may expand forming a rash in a bull's-eye pattern, with a red outer ring surrounding a clear area.

Can I get Lyme disease from my tick bite?

Can I get Lyme disease from my tick bite?

Maybe: If you truly have lyme disease, an infection....It is transmitted to humans by the bite of a deer tick. It's important that many other types of ticks exist and bite...And do not cause lyme disease.

No: The bulls eye lesion clooks just like it says - a bullseye- central redness then a rim of clearing then a larger rim of redness. Just like a bulls eye.

What are common tick bite and Lyme disease risk/symptoms?

Rash, flu symptom: There are a number of tick borne illnesses. To get lyme disease you would first have to be bitten by an infected tick in an area of the country with lyme disease. The early symptoms are a rash and sometimes fever, headache cold or flu like symptoms. This can be followed by other rashes, neurologic symptoms, joint swelling, joint pain, and cardiac (heart) symptoms.

How can I tell if a tick bite has turned into Lyme disease or something?

Other symptoms: In lyme disease, there is usually a "bull's-eye" rash at the site of the tick bite, but this is often missed. Symptoms of more advanced lyme disease can include arthritis, neurological problems, and heart problems. Blood tests can sometimes be helpful in making the distinction. Living in pa, if you had a bite and a rash, treatment for early lyme may be appropriate. Otherwise discuss with your md.

How long after a tick bite would you start to see symptoms of Lyme disease?

How long after a tick bite would you start to see symptoms of Lyme disease?

1-2 weeks: If the tick was carrying the bacteria borrelia burgdorferi and the bacteria was transmitted via the bite then most individuals will develop a flu like illness with fevers and muscle pains within a week or two. About half will also develop a bullseye rash at the site of the bite.

Why is a tick bite called Lyme disease?

Bite can lead to LD: Tick bites may transmit a variety of illnesses if the tick has been infected with a germ that uses the tick as a carrier. Rocky mountain spotted fever, tick bite fever & lime disease are some of the diseases that can be passed by ticks. Not all ticks carry diseases and not all bites will pass the germ.

I have the bullseye rash around a tick bite but no other symptoms of Lyme disease. Should I still get a test done?

I have the bullseye rash around a tick bite but no other symptoms of Lyme disease. Should I still get a test done?

Get Rx & blood test!: A bullseye rash around a tick bite is considered proof of lyme disease. If you do not have symptoms yet, you almost certainly will over time. It takes time for a blood test to turn positive & you should not wait for this; the earlier you start treatment the better the outcome. Many lyme specialists advise Doxycycline 200 mg 2x/day for a month to be safe. Also get tested for co-infections like babesia.

I have a red raised rash from a recent tick bite, could this be lyme?

I have a red raised rash from a recent tick bite, could this be lyme?

Yes: Many disesases are spread by tick bites. The lyme disease rash of erythema migrans typically causes a large "bulls eye" or annular rash at the bite site. Southern tick associated rash illness has a similar rash but its smaller and commonly on the trunk. You can also get a bacterial superinfection of a tick bite. See your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

I have a tick bite that is 5 days old. It's mildly tender, mildly itchy and looks like a large mosquito bite. I'm not in a Lyme disease region.

Tick borne illnesses: Include many things besides just Lyme. However, most often, a local reaction to a tick bite is simply inflammation; an expanding, red area of tenderness can be cellulitis (a skin infection, often caused by staph bacteria). If it is worsening or you develop a fever, please seek medical attention for proper evaluation and treatment.

I have a bullseye rash around a tick bite but do not have any other symptoms of Lyme disease. Do I need to get a blood test?

Not just Lyme: Avoid being "lyme-centric"! depending on geography, there are several other tick borne diseases (e.g. Anaplasmosis, babesia, human monocytic or granulocytic erlichiosis) that co-infects with lyme (caused by b. Burgdorferi), or else, the diagnosis is something other than lyme (eg. Relapsing fever caused by b. Hermsii & southern tick -associated rash illness [stari] caused by a diffferent tick.

I have had a large (3" diameter) itchy purple bruise develop around a tick bite within 24 hours. Should I be worried about Lyme?

No, you are having an: allergic reaction to the ticks saliva. Put hydrocortisone cream on it. It should get better in next few days. If it does not, see your Dr. If the tick was not attached for 24 hrs, little chance of lyme disease.
