What Does A Low White Blood Count Mean
X ray of broken bone showed hole in bone biopsy done and was neg for bone cancer. Recent blood test showed low white blood count. Reason for concern?
Evaluation warranted: Depending on how low the white count, it would be wise to continue to be followed by a primary health care provider and/or hematologist. It will likely return to normal, but it should be followed.See 1 more doctor answer
What does low white blood cell count mean? 60 y/o female. Finished chemo & radiation for stage 3 bc one year ago.
Effect on marrow: One of the problems of chemo is that it not only destroys the dna of the tumor cell but of the cells in the marrow reducing the wbc. This is exaggerated following rt. When the WBC gets too low drugs like gcs must be used to bring the count up over 4000, the normal being around 7000 -8000.
Low WBC: Chemotherapy of some types can cause a decrease in the white blood cells that are formed in the bone marrow. This is a concern because white blood cells are used by the body to fight off infection. If the WBC gets too low then the body is at risk for infections so sometimes chemo has to be stopped to let the white blood cells recover.See 2 more doctor answers
Not necessarily: Low white blood counts, or leukopenia, may be a sign of a viral infection or a severe bacterial infection. For some people, this is actually normal. In HIV infection, the cd4 t-lymphocyte, or cd4 cell is affected and this specific white blood cell decreases in number.See 1 more doctor answer
LDH, leukopenia: It means you need to see a Doctor and be evaluated. There are numerous possibilities as neither is specific. Notwithstanding its a good idea to have a work up as some of the possibilities are serious.
Need more info: What is the actual value? What is the differential count? Do you have any symptoms? All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered test is usually in the best position to do that.
See below: There are a huge number of possible causes for a low white blood cell count. Some include: infection, immune disorders, cancers, andother genetic causes. See your doctor for further infrmation and work up.
I have low white blood count(4.4) and BILIRUBIN is high at(1.4) what would this mean for a twenty something year old?
Any symptoms?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it may be your normal and there may not nothing out of order. You should discuss it with your doctor who knows more about your health. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
Is it possible to have gastritis and low white blood count? I've always thought inflammation in the body means higher white cells counts...
Really not related: The two things may not be related. Also, the body reacts differently whether we have a viral illness (can have low white count) vs. A bacterial one (can have a higher count). Some inflammation in the body may not do anything to your white count. Please see your doctor if you are having any symptoms or worries.
Get details: "treat the person, not the numbers." unless this is due to a very low absolute count of neutrohils or a very low absolute count of lymphocytes, it should not be a concern. Your physician has the absolute counts.
Possible : Viral illness . Need more history to be able to tell you more .
I am a 31 yo female. My WBC was 19 and my RBC was 3.1 (iron level 8.2). What does it mean to have a high white blood count and a low red blood count?
D/w your doctor: How is your period? Is it heavy? What is your ferritin? Hemoglobin? You should see your doctor and discuss with your doctor about your blood work result. You are anemic and your serum iron is low. You may have an iron deficiency anemia which is related to your heavy cycle perhaps vs other kind of anemia. Wbc can be elevated in different settings-like bleeding, infection, inflammation, cancer etc.
What do both high red and white blood count levels along with low MCH levels and high absolute Neutrophil levels mean on a CBC lab test?
Can't tell: without more information. Discuss this with your physician to interpret how this fits with your symptoms, physical findings, known conditions, etc. Good luck1
YES IT CAN BE: A viral infection is a common cause of low white count with increse lymphocytes in differential count. But if it is persistatly low.Than you need further evaluation, as after the infection it returns to normal.
No: If either the absolute lymphocyte count or the absolute neutrophil count are way below reference range, it's worth following. You know that these ranges are set so that several percent of healthy people fall outside.
My 9 year old had a low white blood count in december and now in february it was down to 2.7 what should be tested to find out the cause of it?
Hematology workup: He needs a complete work up by a pediatric hematologist and possibly a bone marrow test.
Not likely: Monocytosis is consistent with a viral process. The finding will require further followup. If monocytosis persists the patient may need to see a hematologist and a bone marrow evaluation done. Sepsis is a bacterial infection in the blood stream and other organs. The white cells are of a different population than monocytes in sepsis.See 1 more doctor answer
I have a low white blood count. Can i improve this? I seem to be sick all the time since coming out of hospital in december after having pneumonia.
See you doctor: There are many reasons why you have a low count. Some can be no issue. Some can be due to viral infections or more serious problem in the blood or from other issues. Get it checked out so you know if you even have a problem. A hematologist is the person to see.
