What Does A Hysterectomy Look Like
Having my 3rd leep in 10 years for recurring hsil cervical polyps (1st leep was for mild). Should i be concerned? Should i look into a hysterectomy?
Surgical Risk?: In general, hysterectomy is much more invasive and puts a patient at significantly greater risk than a leep. Further, hysterectomy should only be used when a leep is insufficient, i.e. Positive margins. I do understand the frustration/anxiety entailed by recurrent hsil though -- hysterectomy may be reasonable if your gyn can perform a lower risk procedure, like a laparoscopic or vaginal surgery. ...Read more
I had a da vinci total hysterectomy 9 weeks ago and a colonoscopy 3 weeks ago. I look like I am 7 months pregnant and it just continues to get bigger?
What do you suggest if i would like a full hysterectomy. What criteria must one fit to be a candidate?
Better than open: Laparoscopic hysterectomy is performed when vaginal hysterectomy may be very difficult and one wants to avoid a major open surgery. This typically rquires 3 or 4 small incisions in the abdomen. You may go home the same day or stay in the hospital overnight. Your recovery will be significantly faster comapred to abdominal route. Open abdomial hysterectomy is rarely necessary today. ...Read more
Depends what type: An open hyster takes the longest to recover with 8 weeks of disability, 1-3 days before you walk comfortably, & 6 weeks before you can resume full activities. Usually meds are given for the first week and then tapered off. Vaginal, total laparoscopic, lsc assisted, & robotic all have quicker recoveries, prob in reverse order. It depends on the complexity of the surgery & skill level of surgeon. ...Read more
How painful is a hysterectomy? What is the recover like for a hysterectomy? Will i be in a lot of pain?
Any : Any surgery is associated with some initial pain and discomfort after the surgery, but the techniques to improve post-surgical pain have improved markedly over the last few years. Most patients are given medications in the post-operative period to keep their pain well under control. Hospital staff are trained to be very responsive to post-operative pain. Most patients after a hysterectomy are given restrictions for returning to work initially and are instructed to avoid lifting more than 5-10 pounds; your doctor will give you their specific instructions. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I had hysterectomy on april 3but still having some bleeding like a cycle. Is that normal i gotten two different medicine to stop it and still bleeding?
Possibly: It is normal to have some light bleeding, i.e. A panty liner takes care of it. This can last for several weeks. Usually the bleeding will change to a pinkish/watery discharge as the tissue heals and the sutures dissolve.
