What exactly does it mean if your systolic is high and your diastolic is low?

What exactly does it mean if your systolic is high and your diastolic is low?

=Wide Pulse Pressure: The difference between the systolic and diastolic pressure is the pulse pressure. A widened value, such as you are describing, may be due to a variety of causes such as aortic valve regurgitation, atherosclerosis, hyperthyroidism, an av malformation, head trauma, or medications.

What does a high systolic, but low diastolic BP for my 6 month old means?

What does a high systolic, but low diastolic BP for my 6 month old means?

?: It depends on how marked it is - it may be nothing. But the pathologic cause, if there is one, is an AV (arterial-venous) fistua (abnormal communication).

Should I be concerned if my diastolic number for my BP stays in the high 80's to mid 90's? In the past my number was much lower.

Hypertension: High blood pressure is called the silent killer as most people have no symptoms. You should see a doc and cut back on sodium in your diet. Not an emergency, reason to treat is to prevent complications such as, heart disease, strokes, kidney disease.

What does it mean if your diastolic number is 53?

What does it mean if your diastolic number is 53?

Blood pressure: A diastolic pressure of 53mmhg could be normal, it could also indicate decreased peripheral vascular resistance or aortic insufficiency or several other things.

What can high diastolic pressure mean?

Needs evaluation: High blood pressure either systolic or diastolic needs evaluation and treatment to prevent complications such as stroke, heart attack, or kidney damage.

What could cause the diastole number of your blood pressure to ge too high?

What could cause the diastole number of your blood pressure to ge too high?

Diastolic BP: This is a measurement of the resistance of the blood vessels. The physiologic causes include high circulating renin which is a hormone that may come from the kidney. The high diastolic blood pressure can cause blood vessel damage in the brain, kidney, and heart muscle and needs to be lowered to less tha 90 to decrease the risk of such damage.

My blood pressure has a normal systolic yet a high diastolic. What does this mean?

My blood pressure has a normal systolic yet a high diastolic. What does this mean?

Normal not = Healthy: No specific values were stated. By decades of human trials, NIH. Gov, since 2003, officially considers systolic BP 120-139 as prehypertensive, diastolic BP 80-89 as prehypertensive. What do they mean by prehypertensive? High BP they are unsure is bad enough to tell Docs to Rx BP meds because many/most do not have a good long term track record in human trials, only a few do. Optimal rest PP 40mmHg.

Is it normal to have a high systolic number and low diastolic number for blood pressure?

Is it normal to have a high systolic number and low diastolic number for blood pressure?

Common, not normal: Many possible causes. Frequently part of aging effects on arteries, making them less flexible. It commonly happens with anxiety, pain, strenuous exertion. It should not always be like this when tested. There are medications that work well for this type of high blood pressure. If either systolic and diastolic number stay high, there is risk for heart attack and stroke, and both need treatment.

I am 21 and have high systolic (148 +) and low diastolic (35-40) blood pressure, what does this mean?

I am 21 and have high systolic (148 +) and low diastolic (35-40) blood pressure, what does this mean?

Abnormal BP: That blood pressure is abnormal especially for one so young. Verify that your BP apparatus is functioning properly. If indeed that is your true blood pressure two things come to mind: aortic insufficiency which is a back flow of blood across the aortic valve or severe anaemia. Please see your doctor about your blood pressure.

Consistently high bp - 183/106 with a resting pulse of 66 - my new medications (1 wk on them) my diastolic number is now reading low to mid 60's?? Is this OK - top number remains 150 or higher

Consistently high bp - 183/106 with a resting pulse of 66 - my new medications (1 wk on them) my diastolic number is now reading low to mid 60's?? Is this OK - top number remains 150 or higher

Inadequate BP contro: The Blood pressure is still too high. A diastolic reading of 60 is not unusual. However systolic of 150 on medical therapy is too high.

What does a high diastolic reading in a BP reading stand for? What are the causes and implications? In addition to drugs, what can a patient do?

What does a high diastolic reading in a BP reading stand for? What are the causes and implications? In addition to drugs, what can a patient do?

Blood pressure: Blood pressure readings give two numbers. The higher number is systolic. The lower number is diastolic. Systolic is when the heart is contracting/pumping blood. Diastolic is during the time the heart is relaxing. Hi readings for either one is considered abnormal and should be treated if persistent. Other than medication, weight-loss and low-salt diet may help lower these numbers.

What causes low diastolic but high systolic?

What causes low diastolic but high systolic?

Wide pulse pressure: High systolic and low diastolic pressure is seen with aortic valve insufficiency and sometimes other conditions.

140/90 normal: Systolic < 140 (130 for diabetics) diastolic <90 (80 for diabetics).

Can you tell me about normal systolic, high diastolic, with little difference in numbers. 118/100?

Can you tell me about normal systolic, high diastolic, with little difference in numbers. 118/100?

OK: Your blood pressure falls into a category noted as isolated diastolic hypertension. In the past, diastolic blood pressure was considered a greater risk for poor heart outcomes. More recently studies have shown that isolated diastolic blood pressure does not carry the same risk as isolated systolic (top number) blood pressure. Monitor and follow with your doctor. 118/40 is actually a higher risk

When I take my BP the sys is high 130 to 180 yet my diastolic under 80 (65-76). How can I get sys. Stabilized?

When I take my BP the sys is high 130 to 180 yet my diastolic under 80 (65-76). How can I get sys. Stabilized?

Pulse pressure: Is wide. This is calculated by subtracting diastolic from systolic. With a "normal" BP of about 120/80 the pulse pressure is 40. A wide pressure is due to poor neurological controls and the commonest cause is sugar in the diet. See my post on diet.
