What Does A High Ca 125 Level Mean
Hi, I'm 48 yo, have endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, pre-menopausal. CA 125 was around 200's then 159 the last one was 210 any concerns?
Likely, no: CA 125 is not recommended as a screening tool for ovarian cancer when used in risk-based stratification. Meaning, assuming that your mom or sister didn't get diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Normal for women with endometriosis to have elevated CA-125. It sounds like your doctor has done Ultrasound to evaluate ovaries as well. Your MD knows your history and risk, likely this CA-125 level is normal ...Read more
Ca-125 (cancer antigen 125 or carbohydrate antigen 125) is a biomarker/tumor marker for ovarian cancer (etc); however, it is not sensitive or specific enough to use as a screening test. Also, a uk study showed that treating based on ca125 level did not improve outcomes. "125" comes from the 125th attempt to develop a marker. It was introduced by bast ...Read more
Can a hemorhaggic, endometrioma or fibroid cause high level on the ca-125 test? I am 27 y/o with a level of 190. I have a 10cm and 4cm cyst on ovaries
I'm 32 years old and 7 weeks pregnant. My CA125 is over than 1400, I don't know what it means, and really scared. Can this affect to my pregnancy? Or because of my pregnancy so this ca125 is high? Is it normal Ca125 is over than 1400 for a pregnant woman?
Why tested?: Are you sure it was a CA125 or did you mean BHCG? CA-125 is a blood test done to assess the risk for ovarian cancer in specific cases. It is not a typical test to be done during pregnancy. During pregnancy it does not correlate well to cancer risk because of hormonal changes. If this test was ordered then there is likely a specific reason. Contact the ordering physician to interpret the results. ...Read more
My ca 125 range is 900 fluid in stomach & cyst in ovary. Biopsy done twice but doc r NT able 2 find why ca125 levels r high. Cancer not diagnosed yt?
What does it mean when you have mildly elevated ca 125? I have a 15cm ovarian cyst. Does that mean its cancerous?
Nothing out of..: ...Context. Ca.125 is used to follow up response to treatment in patients with cancer of the ovary but a slightly elevated level can come from non malignant causes (and it can be normal even if there is cancer). It is not considered a screening test. Whoever ordered it probably had very valid reasons to do so and I'm sure he/she can explain its implications to you in the proper context. Best 2u. ...Read more
My ca125 levels are slightly elevated and there is a solid mass on my ovary, should I be concerened that it is ovarian cancer?
Depends: Ask your gyn. A solid mass is concerning, but your age, menopausal status, and the ultrasound characteristics are important as well. Elevated ca-125 suggests ovarian cancer, but may be somewhat elevated in many benign conditions, as well, including endometriosis. All of this needs a discussion with your gyn and a possible referral to a gyn oncologist - who are the real experts in this area. ...Read more
7 CM ovarian cyst, ca-125 levels elevated (48), roma score & all blood tests good. Previously had nasopharyngeal cancer. Recurrence or endometrioma?
Likely endometrioma: At your age, ovarian cancer would be exceedingly rare. Ca-125 levels can be elevated in young women for a variety of reasons that have nothing to do with cancer. Nasopharyngeal cancer and ovarian have no relation to each other. Your doctor should tell you what features or characteristics the ovarian cyst has, this will tell you what kind of cyst it is. Good luck! ...Read more
Incomplete info: Why did you have the test done? All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the test is usually in the best position to do that. Ca 125 is not a good test to diagnose a primary illness. ...Read more
Not always.: If this test is high, it could mean endometrial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer and gastrointestinal cancer. This can also indicate benign conditions, like endometriosis, other ovary disorders, and pregnancy, as well as any inflammatory condition in the abdiminal area. This is a big reason why it is used with other tests in evaluation and to follow treatment response. ...Read more
None to minimal: If the ca-125 was going to be used simply as another blood test for example in a yearly physical, you should not be terribly concerned at all. My answer is different however, if you have a history of a disease such as ovarian cancer and that it should be checked. I also might order it if you have a strong family history of ovarian cancer for example. If not you should not be concerned. ...Read more

CA-125: This marker is elevated significantly at this value. It's greatest specificity for ovarian cancer is in post-menopausal women, but a variety of things that irritate the lining of the abdomen and even chest, can elevate it mildly. So things like appendicitis, endometriosis, and even diverticulosis can also result in high levels. But, getting checked out for what is behind this is a good idea. ...Read more
Yes and No: Ca-125 is a test for follow-up after diagnosis and with the treatment of ovarian cancer. It is elevated in many other diseases. The test should not be used for a fishing expedition because it would be misleading and concerning for a patient like you. Why was the test done in the first place? Do you have cancer? In any case a 25 level could be normal? What was the normal range. In the lab? ...Read more
Ca-125 was elevated at 40? Once told by gyno that I have precancerous cells. Should this combination worry me?
Unknown: At this point in time there is a lot of discussion about this topic and many who feel there may be some association but there has been no known proof of an association of Lyme disease and an elevated CA 125. This is still being researched and nothing that can say a definite cause and affect. Hope this helps. ...Read more
Not sure: Ca 125 is used to follow response of ovarian cancer to treatment, it is not considered a good screening test for the general population (too many false positives) but is used to screen patients that cary a deleterious brca mutation. Urine ca125 is not routinely done but very elevated levels may be significant; but it doesn't correnlate with serum (http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Gov/pubmed/7944239#). ...Read more
Cyst needs study: Fluid filled ovarian mass is a cytst either simple or complex. Simple cysts larger than 5cm need excision. Complex cysts probably should be removed. Ca 125 has little value unless lesion is malignant, has been removed and Ca 125 used for monitoring response. To treatment. ...Read more
CA-125: This marker is quite non-specific for cancer, particularly in pre-menopausal women. Any things that irritate the lining of the abdomen (such as cysts, endometriosis, and non-ovarian things as well) can prompt elevations in the range you have noted. Other means of screening for cancer however are also imperfect. If you are at high risk, other follow-up may be needed. ...Read more
Probably not but...: Here is a possibility; ca125 (a bad screening test for ovarian cancer due to its lack of specificity) can become elevated with any inflammatory condition of the peritoneal lining of the abdomen. If the WBC in the urine reflect a UTI or infection of the kidney then it is possible the ca125 could be elevated. ...Read more
Not necessarily.: The ca125 tumor marker is a notoriously non-specific indicator of disease (i.e. It can be elevated for reasons other than cancer). It is frequently most useful for tracking the progression or regression of a disease over time and less useful as a standalone diagnostic test. ...Read more
What's positive?: How high is it? Ca125 is not a test used to diagnose ovarian cancer but to follow its response to therapy. Many things, malignant or not, can make it go up. You are young for ovarian cancer but I would advise you follow up with your doctor and have a good chat about the implications of the test results. Ciao! ...Read more
