What Does A Full Fontanelle Mean
In an infant, the space where two skull-bone sutures join forms a membrane-covered "soft spot" called a fontanel (fontanelle). The fontanels allow for growth of the skull during an infant's first year. The fontanels should feel firm and very slightly curved inward to the touch. A tense or bulging fontanel occurs when fluid builds up in the skull cavity or when pressure increases in the brain (increased intracranial pressure). My anterior fontanelle was prematurely closed shortly after birth b/c i was a premie. Does this mean I have craniocynostosis?
No: The closure of the soft spot does not define craniosynostosis. It can be undetectable in size or as large as a grapefruit and the kid turn out fine.It is the behavior of the skull bones define a problem. If they fuse, not just close in , a person will have a ridge develop at the point of fusion and abnormalities develop in the shape of the head, that is craniosynostosis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Are there scaly patches on the babies scalp? If you see nothing, then I would not give it a second thought. In fact, the best thing for the " cradle cap" rash is to ALSO do nothing! Enjoy your baby! ...Read more
