A cyst is a structure or mass that consists of a cellular lined sac. It is typically filled with fluid but may be filled with solid material. It can be congenital, traumatic, or acquired. They may develop nearly anywhere in the body and usually require complete excision for eradication or they are likely to recur. Fluid filled sacs that are not cellular lined ...Read more
Very complicated ans: Without going into the physics of MRI (which I doubt even the most ardent Radiologist could explain), prolongation of the T2 signal (a bright area on T2-weighted images) generally means a higher water content - swelling from stroke, inflammation, tumors, infections can cause this. If you've had multiple MRIs, increasing prolongation may not mean much as each MRI is obtained differently. ...Read more
See below: This depends on what cyst and in what organ. Usually, though, a heterogenous area in a cyst may mean a solid nodule component, an area of debris containing proteinaceous or hemorrhagic materials, or septations. Some thoughts...: Not sure what it means to say, "doctor wouldn't tell me anything." At 20 weeks, time is of the essence. Everyone involved has to get together now to decide whether or not the baby has a significant malformation. If so, one can consider aborting... which is why time is of the essence. Ask the doctor for the answer. Ask another for a second opinion if the first answer is not clear cut. Good Luck! ...Read more

Some bad tumors may grow so fast that the insides may die and become cystic. If there is concern, contact a local neurosurgeon, and get evaluation. ...Read more
Need for treatment : depends on size & location of arachnoid cysts & whether or not they cause neurological symptoms from pressure on underlying brain tissue. Neurosurgeons perform minimally invasive micro neurosurgical endoscopic procedures to remove membranes of a cyst or open a cyst so its fluid drains into the normally flowing cerebrospinal fluid.
