What Does A Ct Scan Show About The Colon
CT will show both: Yes, a ct scan will show both organs, the pancreas and the colon. Contrast material, such as oral or IV contrast may enhance the evaluation. Ct is probably the best modality for pancreatic imaging. For the colon: inflamatory conditions, diverticulosis, and large tumors will usually be easily seen with ct. Small lesions such as polyps within the lumen are better seen with colonoscopy. ...Read more
Computed tomography is also known as CT scan. Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! the image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more
Wrong: Ct scanning of the abdomen and pelvis shows the colon, yes, but not subtle mucosal lesions such as early cancer. It shows your internal organs such as the liver, spleen, kidneys and pancreas in great detail. It also shows your small intestinal and the numerous blood vessels. It can evaluate the connective tissue and fat to uncover inflammatory conditions or infections. ...Read more

Imaging/biopsy: The imaging modality of ct scan could show findings that would be concerning for cancer, mass around your colon, enlarged lymph nodes in the same area. However, the diagnosis is made at biopsy, a piece of the mass under the microscope of a pathologist. Often the ct scan leads to the biopsy. Good luck, it is important to get the evaluation completed. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Not if early: A ct is not sensitive enough to find very small colon growths. There is a blood test the cea that is high in some cancers, but usually only when quite advanced and not specific to colon cancer. Now, a ct might suggest a colon cancer, however, colonoscopy is considered the gold standard for detecting colon growths. There is research into high definition ct but it is not considered a standard. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Would a cat scan a month ago show advanced colon cancer? Been having weakness weight loss last few weeks and i hear you don't get symptoms till advnc
Depends: It depends on what you mean by advanced. If you mean spread to other organs, usually it will. If you mean advanced within the colon itself. Not unless it was really large. I've noticed that you seem to be asking a lot about colon cancer. If you have had a clear colonsocopy, you should be in the clear. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I had a CT scan to look for thickening of the wall of my colon. Scan showed no thickening but a contracted gallbladder after fasting. What's the tx?
Unless you have : Symptoms suggesting gallbladder disease i would do nothing. The gallbladder can contract by just drinking some water so a contracted one alone is of doubtful significance. Ultrasound can be used to look for gallstones should there be some need for further evaluation and hepatobiliary scans can look for abnormal gallbladder filling and emptying in patients with suspected gallbladder dysfunction. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Ct scan uses data from a beam of xrays and reconstructs a cross sectional image of your body. It is a high dose of xrays and used only when the benefits outweigh the risk. Cancer risk is 1 in 500 in children. Also using iodinated contrast might cause transient renal failure in about 5% of patients. (contrast induced nepropathy) most do not explain this to the patient as ...Read more
