Not much: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, if rest of the parameters are in the normal range, a slightly elevated RDW is not of concern. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. I have a normal cbc (wbc 8.5 rbc 4.1 plt 331) but have noticed random petechia on legs and chest. Doctor confirmed. What cause this with normal cbc?
Vascular fragility: Petechiae can be due to low platelet count (which you do not have) or fragile blood vessels, as may happen with increased corticosteroid hormones. If you are overweight, losing weight would help. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more
My CBC is WBC 9.2, RBC 5.5, hgb 16.1, hct 46.4, MCV 84.4, MCH 29.3, mchc 34.7, %rdw-cv 12.4, PLT 254, mpv 12.2, % neut 46.8, % lymp 40.5, % mono 9.4 .. Is it good or bad. Plz comment on high mpv value?
Results in range: Didn't get lab's reference range with your results ? Labs do vary. With that being said, your % monocytes are a bit high (range 2-8%) you are 9.4 the concern is out of range mean platelet volume mpv. (range 7.5-11.5 ) you test at 12.2. Platelets are cells involved in blood clotting. Higher ranges indicate platelets are larger, and possibly mean greater risk of stroke or heart attack. I suspect my pre-teen has mono. Waiting for EBV test to come back. In the meantime CBC showed normal WBC&RBC. Does this mean mono is unlikely?
Maybe: The lay term mono is based on the common feature of a high proportion of monocytes on the CBC differential count. The EBV test could indicate recent (elevated IgM, or long time ago =elevated IgG mono. If negative it would likely mean little.Sometimes the test can be negative very early in the illness in kids. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Fever102 from 1.5 month CBC as RBC 2.5 WBC 1.2 plat 1.2 hgb 8.5 test for typhideTB and bone marrow all ok, hematologist unable to dignose plz help.
My brother and i both have the thalassemia trait but we are both very healthy. We both had CBC and cmp tests. We have high RBC and rdw, low mch, low mchv, and low wbc. Is the low wbc/neutrophil a problem?
African American?: African americans often have absolute neutrophil counts that are slightly lower than caucasians. There are many reasons for slight variations in the normal wbc, including alterations in the marginated (attached) vs demarginated (circulating) pools. Being otherwise well, i wouldn't worry about this. As physicians, we are trained to treat patients, not numbers. Cheers. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Im 50 yrs old female and had my cbc. Results were: hemoglobin - 10.5, rbc-3.61, hematocrit-0.33, wbc-6.7, is there anything to worry? Tnx
Incomplete info: Your hemoglobin is low, i.e., you are anemic. Anemia needs to be worked up to determine the cause, as it can range from excessive menstrual loss, nutritional deficiency, gastrointestinal bleeding including that due to cancer etc. See this site for more info and it would be prudent to follow your doctor's instructions. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/pmh0001586/. ...Read more
Hi, I need your opinion. My CBC indicates elevated basophils (0.11) and platecount (416). On the otherhand, urinalysis shows WBC 11-25 and RBC 3-5 hpf?
Recheck results: Hi Shariel - Your mildly elevated CBC results may not indicate a medical condition as normal values are based on population averages. I would recommend retesting to see if there is truly an issue. Your urinalysis is concerning for an infection and treatment should be considered. Thankfully your CBC did not indicate the infection had spread into your blood otherwise the neutrophils would be high. ...Read more

Im 24 yo, just had my CBC, WBC is 11.39, RBC 4.05 and other are on their range except for these two. Is this result ok?
See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your WBC count is at the high end of normal, but that does not mean that you have any disease. If you do not have any symptoms, you may wait and watch. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Is it normal to see Nucleated RBC around 0.40 WBC in multi CBC during one year period along with immature granulocyte 0.6 % in adult?
Not nRBC's: A few young granulocytes are fine and this depends on the lab. If you feel well, and the rest of your labs including your reticulocyte count are unremarkable, I wouldn't pursue this. You're unlikely to find anything important. It may be that you are making blood in your spleen for some reason. Often we never find the cause. ...Read more

No worry: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, the slightly high RDW is no cause for concern. You may wish to take oral iron supplements as women tend to be iron deficient due to menstrual blood loss. Lab tests need to be: Interpreted in the clinical context. Your transmission of the results is not in the usual format but suggests increse in lymphocytes and that can have many different reasons. Im a male (29) please adv what a decrease in WBC from 7.1 to 5.8 means. And a change in cbc-lymphocyte 25%, neutorphils 69%, moncytes 6%. Rbc 5.1%, ESR 34
These seem okay: The question is, how do you feel? Labs like these often don't mean anything to a doctor without more information. A decline in white blood cells from 7 to 5 is considered physiologic. The other numbers are normal. At 29, an ESR of 34 is slightly elevated, non-specific & possibly do to a recent infection. If concerned or have symptoms, discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

Need a work-up.: You might have one or more issues here. You have a low WBC count with about 75% lymphocytes, which can mean a leukemia or lymphoma. In addition you've a high RDW and low mch, with a normal rbc count which can mean that cells are being pushed out of your bone marrow by whatever is affecting your wbcs. You should see your doctor for more tests, a look at your blood smear, and a full work-up. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
On a cbc, what things might set off a red flag to a dr that a patient might have leukemia? Wbc or rbc?
I got my CBC and Urinalysis results back. I have no RBC or WBC in my urine but I have trace occult blood in the urine. What could be the be the cause?
High WBC (13.4; neutrophils 90%, lymphocytes 6%), normal RBCs, low H/H (7.4/27.7). CBC done in the ER for syncopal episode. What could be going on?
4 yr old w/ 5 wks low grade temp (100.4) no other symptoms. 3 cbcs w/ flagged diff, yet overall norm wbc (~11,000), rbc, hgb, etc. Neutro H (61%), Eos H (6%), Lymph L (28%), MCHC L (below 28%). Suggest fever cause? Doc says cbcs are normal; how so???
Numbers are just...: Lab results usually are numbers, and numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless a doctor takes in the whole picture of what's going on with a patient. If a patient's blood cell count is mildly higher-or-lower than the reference range, the doctor may or may not consider the result abnormal, depending on the patient's previous results, symptoms, preliminary diagnosis, and medications. ...Read more
Are these "out of range" CBC numbers normal or cause for concern/alarm? Auto WBC 11.4(H), RBC 5.20, Hgb 12.1, Hematocrit 38.8, MCV 74.6(L), MCH 23.3(L), MCHC 31.2(L), RDW 18.3(H), Platelet Count 426(H). Would further investigation be advised?
All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Polycythemias: Your values suggest overproduction in more than one bone marrow cell line. 5 yo cbc is hgb 11, Rbc 3.68, wbc 13, mcv 91,rdw 24.4, slight anisocytosis. Referred to hematologist who said not urgent. Appt is in 6 wks. Worry???
Think it's OK- 6 wks: Following all the numbers with red blood cells is confusing. In this case the hemoglobin is mildly low and shows what is called normocytic anemia. The RDW and RBC with MCV don't point to a particular, or concerning cause, possibly a vitamin deficiency with MCV but it is barely abnormal also. Knowing more of the history is important- chronic infections? Dietary restrictions? I copied a nice review http://www.aafp.org/afp/2001/1015/p1379.html#afp20011015p1379-t4 ...Read more

Unlikely related: with the lab values reviewed, your symptoms would be very unlikely related to anemia or an issue with red blood cell production. retic counts are best evaluated in the setting of anemia or suspected bone marrow problem. unfortunately your symptoms could have a wide range on causes. simplest is not drinking enough fluids, not taking in enough salt and have low blood sugars. should see your doctor i ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
