I believe I may have tendonitis, is it best to see a medical doctor or physical therapist?

I believe I may have tendonitis, is it best to see a medical doctor or physical therapist?

It all depends.: One would need to know more about the "tendinitis". Inflammation caused by an injury would probably be best evaluated by a physician first. In all likely hood, he will direct you to a physical therapist if necessary. I would be okay if a patient sought treatment from a therapist for inflammation of a non-traumatic origination. Mild inflammation can easily be treated with NSAID, ice and /or heat. ...Read more

Which is a better pain managment for patellar tendonitis. Prp or cortisone injections or hyperbarics or just exercises? I see my doctor friday.

Which is a better pain managment for patellar tendonitis. Prp or cortisone injections or hyperbarics or just exercises? I see my doctor friday.

Find the cause first: Start with the cause for overloading the anterior knee (tight hamstrings, flat feet, weak quads) and address these first to prevent a recurrence. Initial treatment focuses on rest, unloading with a patellar band, pt, orthotics, and oral anti- inflammatories (if tolerated). I am not a big fan of steroid injections near the tendon due to risk of rupture. Prp is promising but still in its infancy. ...Read more

He hit L knee on the ground 10 weeks ago, resolved partly. Now swelling, pain at left of patella after each basketball practice. What evaluation.....?

Knee sprain/strain: You will need to see an Orthopedist for an exam to determine stability. An MRI should reveal what structures are injured. I would suggest reducing strenuous activity that causes significant pain or swelling until diagnosis is made. Use 20 minutes of ice and an Ace bandage for acute swelling/pain. You may also take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain or Motrin/Aleve for pain/inflamation. ...Read more

Heat, ice meds: No surgery. The standard therapy would be heat, ice, acentaminophen, NSAIDS like ibuprofen, naproxen. When the growth plate closes this pain will resolve. Since you have tendonitis also this could explain why you have pain beyond the presence of a closed growth plate. Physical therapy may be a good addition to your therapy. ...Read more
