Local reaction: It sounds like he is having a local reaction to the bite. As long as no issues with breathing or swallowing then not likely systemic. Normal to have swelling around a bite and some people react more than others. The eyelid is so thin that the swelling can be much more noticeable than other parts of body. Cool compresses may help and the appropriate dose of dye free benadryl (diphenhydramine) for age can be tried. ...Read more

Relax: Mosquito bites are red and itchy. Hydrocortisone cream will help. More potent, prescription steroid creams are more effective. You can also rub with a wet (not coated!) aspirin. May be infected: Since it is red and tender, it may be infected. Any bite can get secondarily infected. I recommend warm water compresses followed by topical antibiotic ointment eg.
