What do the big and small letters mean on an eye vision chart?

What do the big and small letters mean on an eye vision chart?

Average vision: The eye chart compares your ability to see a specific size object at a determined distance (usually 20 feet) to the average person. If you can read the small letters at the 20/20 line, it means that you can see an object at 20 feet as well as the average person. If you have 20/30, it means that you have to be 20 feet from an object to see it when the average person can see it from 30 feet away. ...Read more

Eyes feel heavy & vision is blurry after the use of artifical tears. I also notice that when I look in the mirror my pupil gets big & small when blinking.

Eyes feel heavy & vision is blurry after the use of artifical tears. I also notice that when I look in the mirror my pupil gets big & small when blinking.

Hippus: Is the term that describes the rhythmic dilation and constriction of your pupils in response to lights when you open and close your eyes. This is a normal pupil response and there is nothing to worry about with this. As for your artificial tears, you may be having a reaction to the preservatives in the drops or they may be too thick for you. Try a different brand to see if this helps. ...Read more

Agree: Sounds very consistent with TIA, but you really need to be checked for residual stroke effects. What would cause extreme blurry vision (cannot distinguish even very large letters) out of only one eye in a child?

What would cause extreme blurry vision (cannot distinguish even very large letters) out of only one eye in a child?

Check my list: If this is a new event (the child saw well from this eye a brief period prior to this) then you need to see an ophthalmologist right away. If this has been present for a long time, then it might be some congenital problem with the eye, a very high refraction in that eye alone, a retinal problem from birth, a variety of problems in the back of the eye. This needs to be sorted out with an exam ...Read more

What does having 20/50 vision (both eyes) mean?

What does having 20/50 vision (both eyes) mean?

Uncorrected?: If you have a need for eyeglasses, then 20/50 uncorrected is the vision level without glasses. If this is the best with correction then you have some decrease in vision which needs evaluation. The vision fraction, 20/20 indicates a letter of a certain size that can just be seen at 20 feet by a "normal" eye. 20/50 means a larger letter which a normal can see at 50 feet. ...Read more
