What Do I Do If The Baby I Sit For Clings To Me When Mom Comes Home
It's normal.: When this happens with my kids, the usually sitter gives a quick hug to our baby, and then hands him over without any fanfare or long goodbyes or drama. Very businesslike. If you and his mom put on a dramatic show, the kid thinks it's a dramatic event. And even if he does cry, it's normal - he's obviously formed an attachment to you, which means you're doing a great job! ...Read more

Yes: Fetuses, at any stage of development, can be affected by compounds ingested by the mother. However, not all drugs are harmful to the fetus. For example, if you do go into premature labor, the OB will give you steroids to mature the premature baby's lungs. Also, once babies are born, if mother is breastfeeding, drugs can be transmitted to the infant through the milk. However, not all drugs are bad. ...Read more

Few studies: There have been few studies of this particular question, but you're right that ketamine can be abused (not only used in anesthesiology). It's called special k on the street. One report i did find showed the infant was small for gestational age, had remarkable hypotonia, and poor reflex response. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20951358 other reports mentioned learning disabilities in older kids. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
OB/peds have protocl: The frequency of invasive group b strep disease has declined since the adoption of surveillance and treatment protocols by ob's & peds. They can have feeding and digestion issues due to immaturity of the GI tract. Preemies may have difficulty regulating their temperature, which puts stress on their bodies. Please tell me if it is possible for a mom to take care of an infant child after a brain aneurysm and 3 week coma?
It is possible: A patient may recover completely from a brain aneurysm and the sequelae. Ultimately, you will have to see how the patient has recovered. Help with pt/ot and rehab are tremendous to get a patient back to normal. It may take some time, but it is entirely possible to have a complete recovery even if there was coma. ...Read more
As an infant, i ate a huge amount of beets. Pooped during my nap and my mom swears the poop stained my butt cheek. 28 yrs later, still there. Why?
Doubt it caused this: If you have an odd coloration of your skin in this area it would be reasonable to consult with a dermatologist to determine the cause. Beets is not a common part of an infant diet in this region, but I have practiced in various parts of the world & never heard of this happening in three decades. I am aware of several skin issues that could produce localized color variations in this location. ...Read more
How about gripe waters for reflux and gas issues for babies? How about mom drinking tea w/ chamomile, fennel , and ginger? What probiotics to use?
Possibly helpful: As someone who practices integrative pediatrics, I do incorporate these remedies for colic/gas in babies. Gripe waters that contain small amounts of fennel and ginger are likely safe as are chamomile and fennel teas (for baby or mom - if baby is under 6m, don't give more than 1 oz 3x per day). Probiotics (bifidus, lactobacillus) have been shown to be safe and effective. ...Read more
