Blood in urine: Urine with blood (hematuria) can be yellow, pink, or red. The key thing is that someone with any evidence of blood (as few as 3 cells per high per microscope field-which cannot be seen with the naked eye but is detected by urine testing) be examined and managed by a physician since most serious illnesses and disease (cancer) must be ruled out if there is any trace of blood in the urine. ...Read more

I know for sure I have fat in my stool from multiple stool test...also blood test...and parasites are VERY common in the US (references from CDC, MAYO?
Unclear question: There is fat in stools of all people. Blood in stool is abnormal and needs to be investigated. Parasites are not common in the USA, as compared to that prevalent in poor tropical countries. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more
Can stool test show occult blood in the bowel. Will the stool test show any indication that there is something wrong in the colon like cancer.Curious!
Stool sample for H. pylori, parasites & ova. They said put 1 tiny scoop into each jar. What if parasites happen to not be in that specific tiny scoop?
Not a problem: You are unlikely to have worms, unless you recently traveled to a poor country. If there are worms in sufficient numbers, a tiny sample will have their eggs. There are better tests for H pylori than stool examination and stool examination for ova and parasites is not useful for a resident of the US. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more
23-yr-old female living in the Caribbean temporarily. My stool is Bristol type 2 and has little white things that look like sesame seeds. Suggestions?
Tapeworms: The classic description of a tapeworm infection is small "sesame seeds" or "grains of rice" in the stool. It is usually due to the tapeworm found in dogs and cats, but it can sometimes be found in humans. What is seen is the proglottid or a segment of the worm. An analysis of a stool sample can determine the exact type and what caused it. Here is a handout: http://tinyurl.com/qzclwja ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Would parasites or worms be obvious in 2 year olds stool? Sometimes i find thread like pieces. Is it food? Would they move? Blood? Any other symptoms?
Usually not obvious: Pinworms are fairly common in this age group. They are small white worms that come out of the anus at night. . If you suspect piworms wait until dark when the child is asleep. Then take a flashlight and check your child's anal area. If you see small thread like wiggleing white things, call your doctor. This not a emergency but as a parent it is upsetting. ...Read more

Is there an easier way to test for parasite in stool? I'm honestly so grossed out to poop in a cup, felt like puking. Is there a swab test I could just use Q-tip inside the anus instead? Please help
Treat, don't test: I attended medical school in Korea. At that time, parasite infestations were common. Many families took an annual "parasite cleanse" as a matter of course. Vermox (mebendozole) is a safe, effective, easily-administered treatment. Unfortunately, the drug has recently been discontinued in the US. No problem--available on-line--it's SAFE & CHEAP. Dosage is 100 mg twice daily for 3 days. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Change in bowel movemnt, blood on tissue paper with difficulty in passing stool. Seen a tear on anal, what can I do to cure it?
Stool softener: Keep your stools soft, avoid straining. The formula for soft stools is to have plenty of fiber in your diet and keep well hydrated - easiest way to do that is to add soluble fiber (metamucil, citracel, etc.) 2 tablespoons once or twice daily, and drink plenty of fluids. Over the counter stool softeners (docussate, dss, or colace) can also help. Warm baths can also help soothe the area. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Not necessarily: Bloating or abdominal distension could be caused by parasites or many other things. Likewise, not having distension does not necessarily rule out a parasitic infection. It is important to consider other symptoms before choosing what tests and treatments are appropriate. Pictures you see of bloated children are more likely related to kwashiorkor/malnutrition. ...Read more
Fecal occult blood test stool card? I know how to smear stool on the card. But when i close the card, isn't it gonna get the card all dirty inside?
FOBT--how it works: If you're using the old hemoccult slide, you'll notice its two-sided. You place your specimen on one side, and close the lid. The doctor or lab, when developing your specimen, turns the card over, opens the back (its clean on that side), and applies the developer solution which soaks thru to your specimen. If a color change, the doctor or lab knows your specimen contains invisible blood. ...Read more
I found out I have four large internal hemorrhoids (they prevented the passage of stool and I ended up in the ER). Could they also change stool shape?
Yes&No, hemorrhoids: are stretched-out/varicose veins (either above or below the anal sphincter muscles) which connect the veins of the lower colon with veins of the skin collecting blood for return to the heart. Assuming no clots, the distending volume is simply blood & probably softer than feces. If the vein contains clots (& scarred down old clots) then greater stiffness & associated effect on fecal shape. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
