What Do Doctors Do To Check Your Eye Pressure
Eye exam: There are two main ways to clinically check eye pressure - the first is contact using a special dye and is the most accurate. The second is using an air puff which is quick but not as good. There are other types which check through the lid or on the cornea and even a handheld pen-like device but they are not commonly used. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I need to go doctor for my eye but I can't describe the symptom, my eye feels weird, how would you describe eye pressure to feel like?
Intraocular pressure: Intraocular pressure, iop. Normal is between 10-21. This is a rough indicator of the relative pressure in the eye. Fluid is formed behind the lens and flows into channels in the front of the eye. Elevated pressure can indicate glaucoma, that can cause vision loss. Low pressure can indicate the eye is very sick, from inflammation or scarring. ...Read more
Suspect glaucoma : Your eyes have a normal range of pressure that your eye doctor checks to screen for glaucoma. The 'normal' range is 10-21. Borderline means on the border, so your pressure may be 20-21. There are other things to check for glaucoma including optic nerve cupping and visual field testing. Make sure the docto checked your corneal thickness because that can effect the pressure measurement.. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Eye pressure 31 today. Should i get a second reading next week before doctor establishes a baseline?
Depends: A solitary pressure reading has little value in determining whether an issue is present. It needs to correlated to the condition of the optic nerve. If the nerve is normal, no treatment is needed, but the patient should be followed for possible future damage. ...Read more
My grandpa , 73 yrs old has eye pressure he has very pain in his eyes this morning what can we do to him at home? He refuses to go to the doctor
Your eye doctor: will look to see if this high eye pressure can be monitored or needs treatment. The doc can perform tests to see if your eye pressure is causing any optic nerve damage. If the exam and testing is otherwise normal, the doctor may choose to monitor you without treatment at first. ...Read more
My wife's eye pressure was normal but other parameters were not normal. Doctor told it is glaucoma. What to do? How to live with it?
Second opinion: The hallmark of glaucoma, especially in a young person, is elevated pressure. There are other risk factors which contribute to the diagnosis but do not make the diagnosis. If the visual field is altered, that can be a clue, but visual field changes can come from other causes. You should seek a second opinion from an ophthalmologist who specializes in diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. ...Read more
My eye pressure was 24/24 in both eyes. Doc was scared and did full glaucoma work up. Which came back negative. What could be causing this. ?
Eye pressues: There is no particular pressure that can be said that is either normal or abnormal. What is a normal pressure for one person may be too high for another. At the pressure of 20, eye doctors start to think of the possibility of glaucoma. In fact, it is possible to have a pressure lower than 20 and still be too high. The diagnosis of glaucoma is based on many factors and not just pressure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Depends: Every patient needs a risk analysis of the various risk factors. Based on that analysis a target pressure is determined. As a group only about 10% of patients with IOP 24 or greater will develop glaucoma therefore not all patients with elevated need to be treated. I have many patients with elevated pressure that I have followed for decades who have not developed glaucoma. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
It depends...: on the individual. If the glaucoma is early, moderate, or severe, then the target eye pressure will be set according to the appearance of the optic nerve, visual field test, and a number of other tests for glaucoma. Typically though, if the pressure approaches the mid to upper 20s or higher, treatment is usually started. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hi..doc I am maturbating last 12yrs.now I had suffering over head pressure, eye pain, memory loss and I didn't concentrate... So plz help me...
I had 2 tablets of 5mg Teva Prednisone or 5 days. Today my eye doctor said that my eye pressure is high. Is it because of this medicine?
Unlikely: High pressure inside the eye is caused by an imbalance in the production and drainage of fluid in the eye. It's somewhat unlikely (although not impossible) that 10 mg of prednisone caused this. Attached is a good article which explains intraocular hypertension at length. Hope it helps! http://www.emedicinehealth.com/script/main/mobileart-emh.asp?articlekey=59078&page=1 ...Read more
In glaucoma can eye pressure readings vary if the same machine isn't used every time and there is a different doctor performing the reading?
How to treat eye pressure is down to 20 with travatan met doctor surgery not required optic nerves are not affected?
Improving: I am guessing your pressure was much higher and your ophthalmologist said if the medication couldn't get the pressure down to a comfortable level , then surgery might be needed. Seems as if the drop is working and you can be followed closely without needed surgery at this time. ...Read more
Optometrist told me eye pressure has consistently been 20. One week later at glaucoma doctor office is 28. Why difference?
VariableEyePressure: Simply stated, the eye pressure (iop) can vary day-to-day, hour-to-hour. A 40% (20-28) increase from one day to the next seems unusual. Were the reading done on the same machine both times?... A baseline is most often established after 'several' readings, on machines that are identical (of have been regularly calibrated). Get this right before using your numbers. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I've been having headaches, dizzy spells and increased eye pressure. My doctor ordered a brain scan? What may be suspected?
Can you a have eye laser corrective surgery if the eye doctor notice eye pressure in your eyes, and then say it can lead to glaucoma? Plus had sarcoid
Depends: If your iop is too high for your eyes, this can definitely lead to irreversible vision loss. Your eye md should be evaluating you for glaucoma ; instituting treatment if characteristic optic nerve changes of glaucoma are present. Sarcoidosis often is initially treated with prednisone, which can elevate iop in susceptible people. I'd advise against lasik until your diagnosis is established. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
