What does it mean to have a vital capacity reading at 2.0 l or 2000ml , irv at 1100ml, and erv at 500ml?

See below: Vital capacity is the volume of air you can move with maximum inspiration and expiration; irv (inspiratory reserve capacity) is what you can do with maximum inspiration but don't usually do with regular breathing, similar for erv (expiratory reserve capacity) for expiration. These numbers look pretty normal. ...Read more

What do you suggest if my lipase level is 29 u/l the standard range of that blood test is <=58 does this mean my lipase is low or normal?

Normal: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your lipase level is normal. Lipase levels below the "normal" limit are not abnormal. ...Read more

My ca 15-3 is 2.3 level higher and my ca 12-5 is 3.8 higher than the normal lvl. What does this mean?

My ca 15-3 is 2.3 level higher and my ca 12-5 is 3.8 higher than the normal lvl. What does this mean?

Why you did the test: My first question will be why did you have the tests done in the first place? Tumor markers like ca 15-3, ca 125- are not supposed to be done as a screening test. They are not reliable & very non specific/not sensitive. They are mainly done to certain cancer patients to follow up their response to therapy given for their cancers. It could be infection, inflammation, ca etc. D/w your md in detail. ...Read more

What does it mean when your f4 thyorid hormone is high and the TSH test is nornmall?

Thyroid is normal: T4 can be high with normal thyroid function due to many factors. These factors are eliminated in the free T4 test, but the TSH is most important. Make sure you are taking brand name T4 replacement, as the generics, while cheaper, are unreliable. ...Read more

Why TSH is higher at morning? Is it because thyroid gland is less responsive when you wake up? Does that mean T4 and T3 (liothyronine) gets also higher at morning?

Why TSH is higher at morning? Is it because thyroid gland is less responsive when you wake up? Does that mean T4 and T3 (liothyronine) gets also higher at morning?

TSH: Sorry, but I don't fully understand your question. TSH, T4, and T3 (liothyronine) should always be measured on the same blood draw. TSH is higher if the thyroid is not working properly and a high T4 and/or T3 (liothyronine) would decrease TSH levels. ...Read more

My free T4 is high 19.30 pmol/l and my TSH is also high 4.530 mlu/l. What does this mean?

My free T4 is high 19.30 pmol/l and my TSH is also high 4.530 mlu/l. What does this mean?

Few possibilities: These labs seem at odds, with TSH suggesting overactive thyroid and ft4 underactive thyroid. Free T4 tests can be inaccurate in some people who have interfering substances present. Another possibility is a tumor in the pituitary secreting too much TSH resulting in thyroid overactivity, and high thyroid hormone levels. This is quite rare, however. Your doctor can help sort this out. ...Read more

My TSH is 0.88 and FSH is 6.2 and am 51. Does that indicate peri menopausal. If not what is normal for peri menopausal?

My TSH is 0.88 and FSH is 6.2 and am 51. Does that indicate peri menopausal. If not what is normal for peri menopausal?

Unknown: Tsh values are not really related to menopause. Fsh values can fluctuate dramatically. Depends on the cycle day they were drawn also - cd-3 is the most helpful. Fsh could be as normal as yours one month and jump to 20 -30 the next. So single values really don't help. The number you have only rules out full menopause. Age alone tells us you are nearing menopause. Symptoms would tell us more. ...Read more

What does it mean when the CA19-9 level goes back to the normal range when someone has pancreatic cancer? Is this a sign of remission?

What does it mean when the CA19-9 level goes back to the normal range when someone has pancreatic cancer? Is this a sign of remission?

Well....: If it was elevated before surgery and now is normal, I would say it is a very good thing BUT, that as of itself does not mean it is in remission or that it will stay that way. Cancer can exist in microscopic form and often there is no way to know for sure, be it with labs or even with scans. Such patient will need long term follow up and maybe even consider post operative therapy. Best 2U! ...Read more
