My 4y/o has cp- physical issues only. He complains of leg, hip, &low back pain. What type of mattress would be best for him?
Memory or Select: I'm a spine specialist in sycamore but don't specifically treat patients with cp. I don't see why a young child with CP should have different mattress needs than the rest of us. I usually recommend cooled memory foam mattresses because they tend to be firm, but also allow a bit of contouring. A select number may be better for him so he can adjust the firmness a bit. ...Read more

I've been experiencing low back pain that went to groin & it feels like my hip socket is grinding together. What could it be? No pain in leg.
Hip: Most painful conditions in the hip cause pain in the groin area, so I suspect it maybe an issue with the hip itself, which would go along with your complaints of a grinding sensation in the hip as well. The most common things we see are arthritic problems in the hip or an internal derangement of the hip such as a labral tear. An exam, X-ray, and possibly an MRI can likely determine the cause. ...Read more
I have had lower back pain which goes down my hip and right leg. The pain reaches down to my calf. What could be causing it? Muscle relaxers didn't work.
Could be disc: Agree with dr badgley that your description is of sciatica. Real question to be answered is whether a nerve root in lower back is compressed by a protruded or ruptured disc, or if a more peripheral pain generator such as sacro-iliac dysfnctn or piriformis syndrome may be the cause. Would not expect muscle relaxer to help here. You need to uncover causation, and treat the pain generator itself. ...Read more
