See physician: To be sure. However, this could be a couple things, including a chronic bursitis which is causing pressure on the ulnar nerve causing the radiating pain. Occluded artery: The vascular supply of the hand is very variable. So you need to be evaluated to see if there is a vascular/blood supply issue or if this is a so-called "red herring" and there is another completely different issue.

However having said that, if someone has it in joint, which has been ijnured in the past then it would be better to have that checked out by your orthopd with an xrays to see if there is a loose body or some other cause for it.

Causes of swelling?: There are many possible causes of swelling, pain and/or redness of the knuckles. These include overuse, sprains, arthritis (wear & tear and rheumatoid are the most common), infection and injury.
