My 3 year old son has a fever of 103 and an extremely rapid heart rate, but no other symptoms. Is the rapid heart rate normal or do I need to go er?

Normal increase: Thhe effect of fever on a kids system includes an acceleration of the heart rate by about 10 beats/min per degree fahrenheight. There is also an increase in the breathing rate by 5 breaths/min. If all you have is fever and the natural heard and breathing response, a fever reducer and observation is in order.A regullar office visit later is fine if you decide to. ...Read more

With a consistent resting heart rate of 85 what would you expect a brisk walk to the shops heart rate to be? 23 year old female w/ slightly high BMI.

With a consistent resting heart rate of 85 what would you expect a brisk walk to the shops heart rate to be? 23 year old female w/ slightly high BMI.

100-120: Your resting heart rate over 80 indicates a lack of physical fitness, assuming your thyroid and medical condition to be otherwise normal. I would guess that a brisk walk would increase your heart rate modestly since you are not obese. At your age, you ought to be doing more vigorous exercise to get your heart rate above 140 for about 20 minutes a day for optimal health and fitness. ...Read more

Hi, I'm an 18 year old female with a blood pressure of 90/60 and a pulse rate of 130 bpm. Is this normal and how can I resolve it? Thanks

There are many: things that contribute to your blood pressure and pulse. That blood pressure can be perfectly normal for your age, depending on your height, weight and other illnesses(if there are any). The pulse is higher that it should be at your age, especially if that is at rest. Exercise, fever, anxiety, and illness may make it elevated. Please see your doctor to be fully evaluated. ...Read more

Is it normal for a male 22 with resting hr of 50-60 even if not athletic or do any exercise? I've had ECG and echo no problems. I do have dysautonomia

Is it normal for a male 22 with resting hr of 50-60 even if not athletic or do any exercise? I've had ECG and echo no problems. I do have dysautonomia

perfectly normal: There's nothing wrong with a hr of 50. Some people are born with "complete heart block" (a rhythm distrurance) and have normal resting hr of 40 with no symptoms. Your heart increases its cardiac output as needed by increasing its stroke volume so hr is not the only mechanism and therefore not critically important. ...Read more

If a heart rate of 50bpm was causing light headedness in a 24 year old male, with no heart problem after tests, would a pacemaker be required?

If a heart rate of 50bpm was causing light headedness in a 24 year old male, with no heart problem after tests, would a pacemaker be required?

It depends: It depends on the circumstances. Usually a heart rate of 50 bp in an athletic 24 years old at rest is not considered a problem especially if he can generate heart rates of over 100 bpm with exercise. However, if he cannot increase his heart rate during physical activity and becomes light headed, he may have chronotropic incompetence and may need consideration for a pacemaker. ...Read more

This : This can be from a hand issue such as circulation, where the outflow the venous return from our hand is affected. It can be from a metabolic issue related to your blodd chemistry. It may be related to the position your hands are in i.e. If they are down and dependent. Try raising your hands over your head occasionally when exercising and see of that helps, however the main thing you want to check is why this is happening and you want to have your circulation and cardiac funciotn assessed. ...Read more

What's a safe way to work out for 20 year olds with a high (120) heart rate? What should my heart rate be during workouts?

Resting tachycardia: I would not advise you to start working out until the reason for your elevated resting heart rate is determined. You are young, and might well tolerate exercise, but a resting pulse of 120 is not normal and the cause needs to be figured out. See your doctor. ...Read more
