Hello --59 yr old male in good condition has inguinal hernia rt side. Has history of testicle torsion age 40. Doctor says leave hernia alone???

Wrong advise: As far as I know if you have a symptomatic inguinal hernia it needs to be repaired. The fact that you had a history of torsion it does not change that fact.
I watched last week a sick 70 years old with a strangulated hernia die because surgery was too risky.
my believe if you are healthy enough to have an elective surgery have it before it becomes life threatening and kill you.
ask for 2 opinion. ...Read more

Maybe never!: 95% or more of umbilical hernias resolve by 4 years old. If it hasn't resolved by then, your child's doctor can refer you to a surgeon. Tape, belly bands, and quarters ('family remedies') actually tend to prevent umbilical hernias from resolving. I noticed a tender grape sized ball in my upper thigh area (near groin). I am a 19 year old female. Is it possible that this may be a femoral hernia?

Unlikely: If you can feel a distinct size, like a grape, it retains the same size no matter how you push on it, the chance of it being a hernia is remote. Most of these peanut to grape sized structures are benign lymph notes that are often noticed in the fold of the groin. ...Read more

39 yr fem. Diagnosed with inguinal hernia today. Very bothersome. Burning in vag area and pain going from hernia to thigh. Should I wait or repair?

Repair: A hernia such as yours results from a defect in the abdominal wall. Because of this defect or tear, "things" inside your abdomen (like intestines) will protrude through the defect. The risk is that, sooner or later, an organ, such as your intestine, will get stuck in this hernia.... Your situation has now become a surgical emergency. Inguinal hernias should be fixed. Yours, soon. ...Read more

What is an indirect inguinal hernia? I have pain where the old hernia was and sometimes pain in my inner upper thigh.

Indirect is #1: Most inguinal hernias come through the hole that's there for your round ligament (vas deferens in men) and testicular vessels called the "inguinal ring". In men with indirect hernias, this ring is too big, and you fix the hernia by fixing it (and usually, adding mesh). ...Read more

Wat are the symptoms for recurrence off inguinal hernia I pulled my old surgery and the area is sore but no pain like my 1st hernia?

Wat are the symptoms for recurrence off inguinal hernia I pulled my old surgery and the area is sore but no pain like my 1st hernia?

FeelsLikeThe1stTime: A recurrent inguinal hernia will manifest itself as a bulge in the groin, not unlike any inguinal hernia. It is usually a gradual process so there is no sign of trauma like bruising. Surgical rx can be a little tricky the 2nd time around--as a general trend, if it was fixed one way the 1st time (open), we tend to recommend the alternate (laparoscopic) the 2nd time. ...Read more

When does a inguinal hernia need to be operated on? In a 16 year old male, plays hockey, and is on 20mg Accutane once daily

During stable health: This won't self heal & at least at that age the kid can recognize if the hernia becomes trapped & tell you. This gives you some time to schedule the procedure during a period of good health, avoiding conflicts of school or other pursuits. A full recovery interval of 6-8 weeks should be anticipated before resumption of sports. If it's big, it should be done sooner & contact sports avoided. ...Read more
