Hello --59 yr old male in good condition has inguinal hernia rt side. Has history of testicle torsion age 40. Doctor says leave hernia alone ???

Wrong advise: as far as I know if you have a symptomatic inguinal hernia it needs to be repaired .the fact that you had a history of torsion it does not change that fact. I watched last week a sick 70 years old with a strangulated hernia die because surgery was too risky. my believe if you are healthy enough to have an elective surgery have it before it becomes life threatening and kill you. ask for 2 opinion. ...Read more

Maybe never!: 95% or more of umbilical hernias resolve by 4 years old. If it hasn't resolved by then, your child's doctor can refer you to a surgeon. Tape, belly bands, and quarters ('family remedies') actually tend to prevent umbilical hernias from resolving.
