Yeast is possible: Genital itching is the most common symptom of vaginal yeast, and your question suggests you're probably taking an antibiotic which can trigger yeast infections. There are several over-the-counter yeast medications you could try; look for a product with active ingredient ending in "azole". But first check with the doctor who prescribed the antibiotic; she may want to see you in person. Good luck! ...Read more

I am having vaginal itching and burning while peeing after I peed. It comes and goes. Do I have a UTI? Or yeast infection?

I am having vaginal itching and burning while peeing after I peed. It comes and goes. Do I have a UTI? Or yeast infection?

Likely yeast, but...: Vulvar itching is unlikely with UTI but is typical for yeast. Also, "external dysuria", i.e. urine burning on the outside when it contacts vaginal opening or labia, is more like yeast. UTI usually causes "internal dysuria", i.e. pain more inside and usually would not come and go. But be careful: STDs can cause similar symptoms if at risk. Always best to see doctor for professional diagnosis. ...Read more

Vaginal itching and burning after having a lot of sex. What is causing it? Could it be a yeast infection? How do I treat it?

Try condom: The vaginal vault could be too dry and rubbing would result in itching and burning. Semen may be the trigger altering your vagina’s chemistry. Other possible triggers are lowered immune resistance, douching, birth control pills, antibiotics, or cuts, abrasions, or other vaginal irritation (friction from intercourse, fingers or fingernails, or tampons). You might try a lubricated condom. ...Read more

Used monostat 1 to treat a yeast infection, I woke up a couple hours later with severe external an internal vaginal itching. Need relief, what now?

Remove monistat 1st: You may be having an allergic reaction to the medication or you may not have a yeast infection. Usually I do not recommend douching, but in your case a vinegar based douche such as summer's eve will help remove the medication. Also, wash the vulva with a mild, hypoallergenic soap and pat dry with a towel. You may need to see your ob/gyn who may prescribe oral Diflucan (fluconazole) and a steroid ointment. ...Read more

Yeast infx likely.: You are right! This sounds like a yeast infection. Augmentin (amox-clav) is notorious for causing these. Use one of the over the counter vaginal yeast medications. If it is no better in 3-5 days, get checked. Do see your doc in 10 days anyway to make sure both the UTI and yeast infection have resolved. If you have abdominal pain, mid back pain, fever, etc. Get seen right away. ...Read more

I have vaginal itching/burning, but tested negative for infection (BV, yeast, STDs). Antifungal cream didn't help either. What else can it be?

See below: If BV, yeast, trichomonas, GC, chlamydia and other STDs have been reliably ruled out with both appropriate gyne exam and cultures, then I would next try to rule out a "contact dermatitis". A number of chemical substances, including creams, douches, condoms, contraceptive foams, laundry detergents, soaps, scented toilet paper, and fabric softeners can irritate the vagina and vulva.
