Please get checked: By your doc. A lump can be serious and when treated properly can lower your anxiety. Ambiguity generates anxiety. Peace and good health.
Bone spur: The usual cause of superficial lump is lypoma. Rarely could it be a small bony growth or neuroma. A lypoma is usually painless, freely mobile, and remains stable over time. Bone spur is hard, fixed and tender on palpation. Neuroma may or may not painful but usually fixed. Just monitor for changes in size, superficial ulceration, changes in color and any suspicious changes talk to your PCP.
Zixphoid bone: Is central and can get traumatized and sore. Or local hernia can occur there.
Painful hard lump: Dear riana, the possible causes of a 'painful hard lump' includes everything from an abcess (a boil) to sebaceous cyst to hematoma, and even benign lipomas, which can sometimes become uncomfortable. Fortunately for you, most physicians, including your pcp, will typically be able to quickly tell you what it is, and help treat you - if any treatment is actually necessary. So go to your pcp asap.
Probably not: It's probably a little lump called a lipoma. That's a harmless collection of fatty tissue that for some unclear reason has decided to glomm together there. I've seen some as big as your fist. But, let a doctor take a look at it and examine it before you write it off as nothing to worry about.

Painful left lump on left side of rib cage. It has grown in size. MRI was last test to show something but it was not defined. Been 3 yrs, what is it?
Need more info: If the lump is in the rib itself, did you have trauma in that area? Have you ever had a cancer, especially of a type that tends to spread to bone; and does the MRI suggest a cancer in the bone? That would be my concern, although your description makes me doubt cancer. Review the findings with your clinician. A biopsy, if needed, is one way to answer your question. Hope that helps.See 2 more doctor answers
Check with ob-gyn: Your obstetrician is the person to evaluate this lump. After birth, you could have soft tissue issues from your abdomen, your uterus or other structures in that area.

Does not sound like a hernia due to location. If severe and unrelenting, may need to go to the ER for a more complete evaluation.
