What Causes Your Hand Muscles To Lock Up
It is a body tissue that has the ability to contract. It shortens and generates force. It relaxes and returns to its original length. Muscles move joints, stabilize the body, move air and food through the organs, act as valves for bladder, bowel and other organs. They control movement of the eyes. They help us express ourselves by changing the shape of our ...Read more
Exercise: The hand contains many small muscles between the bones that contribute to hand strength and dexterity. ANd like any muscle they will get stronger and bigger with exercise. When does it happen?: Pay attention to when you get the spasms - maybe you are doing something as simple as gripping too hard. Perhaps it comes from hunched over posture. Take stretching breaks and arch your back and open up the front of your shoulders (where nerves are) otherwise muscle spasms respond to: adequate water intake, magnesium (glycinate won't give you the runnies that oxide and citrate will) and calcium. ...Read more

3 hrs after I do yard work my left hand muscles flex in pain and the fingers cross also very painful and this only happens useing my hands?
Urgent consult: The most threatening cause for this problem is lack of blood to the arm. That could happen when the artery that supplies blood to that arm is occluded. The symptoms would manifest initially only when the use of the arm makes the decreased supply insufficient to cover the increased demand but it'll be enough when the arm is resting. See a doctor as soon as possible to confirm/rule out this diagnosi. ...Read more

Any MRIs? Any pain?:
"heaviness" can result from rotator cuff injuries. Coordination problems can also mimic heaviness and can result from central nervous system issues.
Obviously problems like this can range from something completely benign, to something significant like ms. If you have had ncs/emg studies done, you're obviously in with a neurologist or someone else specialized in evaluating such conditions. ...Read more

What are the possible causes of right armpit, elbow, and thenar hand muscle atrophy and the pain associates with all three?

What do I do for estreme leg, feet and hand muscle cramps? Kept me up all night--still spasaming. Tried diazapam that I have for occasional cramping and drank some tonic water for the quinine and drank gator ade for the electrolights.
I agree with dr. Jaffery. Another consideration would be spinal cord irritation and a neurologic exam would be able to uncover that problem.
Before you visit the neurologist make sure to differentiate between "spasms", cramps, and restless legs.
Spasms respresent a painful and involuntary muscle contraction. It can not be released voluntarily.
A muscle cramp is a sudden intermittent pain of a muscle that may involve involuntary contractions and can be associated with spasms.
Restless legs refers to an uneasiness and restlessness in the legs when at rest. This most commonly occurs after going to bed but can be seen earlier in the evening (anticipation).
Cramps can also be associated with arthritic conditions and cold exposure. I hope this helps. ...Read more

May be neurological: Loss of muscle control can be due to problems in the brain or the nerves that control the particular muscles. Some disorders affect only one part of the body, while other diseases are generalized, affecting many muscles. ...Read more

Can you tell me if manual labor causes hands to enlarge by increasing muscle size or bone size or both?
Doubtful: Aside from some abnormal growth disorders bone stop growing in late teens early twenties in males and earlier in women. The muscles in the hand get stronger with use but not bigger (or piano players would have huge hands). With manual labor the body can respond to vibration and impact by increasing the fat and fibrous layers to thicken the palm and soft areas of the hand but not very much bigger. ...Read more
